- GPU (Graphics processor / vendor)
GPU (short for graphics processor unit) is a dedicated single-chip processor that draws graphics, i.e. creates lighting effects and transforms objects every time a 3D scene is redrawn. These tasks require a lot of calculation and would eat up all too much of CPUs resources. The GPU market is currenly dominated by AMD (manufactures ATI FireGL and the ATI Radeon graphics chips) and NVIDIA (NVIDIA Geforce and NVIDIA Quadro).
- Interface (Interface type)
Interface is the connection system between video card and motherboard. The main difference between different interfaces is data transfer speed. PCI and AGP are old solutions, which are increasingly often replaced by faster and more modern PCI Express (PCIe).
- Installed memory (Installed memory)
Since graphics operations require lot of memory, video cards have their own dedicated memory reserves. The memory capacity of most modern video cards range from 128 MB to 2.0 GB.
- Memory upgradeable to (Memory upgradeable to)
If the memory capacity of the video card is expandable, the maximum supported size of memory is given here (as megabytes, MB).
