Got this for my birthday about a year ago, and have since jailbroken it with 3.1.2.
Pros:
-Screen size
-Best multitouch I have seen
-Soon to get android on it
-Sound quality
-8gb. I dont have nearly enough apps/music to use all of that, but movies take up a lot of space
-Not had any hardware problems in my total time owning it
-App store selection
Cons:
-Only AT&T without unlocking
-Small amount of RAM, so I cannot run linux through Bochs and actually get it to boot.
-Requires Jailbreaking to use non apple-approved apps
-Slow CPU
-Back gets hot after playing games on it.
Summary: It is a relatively good phone, however my next phone will most likely be an EVO 4G. It is too limited by apple/at&ts draconian restrictions, so I cannot give it 5 stars.

I purchased the A1226 model of this about 3 years ago or so, and contrary to the specs, the Santa Rosa model of this can support 4096mb ram.
Pros:
-Battery Life - 3-4 hours max, suitable for what I do with it.
-Speed - Pretty fast, the only thing slowing it down is applications.
-Linux Compatibility - Works with linux all right
-Durability - Has survived multiple food/drink spills, and still worked fine
-1" thickness, and only 5.4 pounds (weight)!
-Backlit Keyboard
-LED Backlight for screen
-Widescreen 16:9
-No HDD noise that I can hear while under normal usage
Cons:
-Even using rEFIt (custom efi bootloader), Windows wont boot after installing
-HDD comes partitioned with the entire space taken up by HFS+ and EFI, and having free space part of that partition not unallocated or partitionable. Had to use gParted to turn the unused space into unallocated space
-Can get up to 190°F, under full cpu usage such as Folding@Home
-Fan noise when getting hot is really noisy
-CD Drive has to be re-ejected manually (the slot loading drive) as if it is not powered off correctly , it freezes and discs get stuck in it. Have to open console and type "drutil tray eject" occasionally.
-CD Drive is slightly noisy, however better than some I have seen
Overall, I think that this was a great product for its time, and has worked well for me as long as I have used it (3 years). I give it a rating of 5 stars.
Notes:
Once I had to have it sent to apple because of a GPU problem, however that extended the warranty and was a widespread problem.
This thing is durable! It has survived a Guitar Hero drum falling on the HDD area while it was running, with barely a dent, and has been dropped multiple times while running without any issues.
