The consumer electronics giant doesn't settle in replicating the common business model, but plans to add video to the selections of their online music store. This kind of move was no surprise as the online music market seems to have over supply, and competitors need to differentiate their products in order to gain competitive edge. Just wait for the Apple to make a similar announcement...
In the shorter term, Sony also needs to provide improvements to help it compete more effectively with rivals Napster, Apple's iTunes Music Store and the upcoming Virgin Digital, which may also be looking beyond music to other forms of content it can sell.Source: The Register
Sony is already a partner in Movielink a US-only Internet distribution company, alongside studios Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros and MGM. Movielink could act as a source for Sony Connect's video offering.
