Nintendo reports that the DS Lite, recently launched in the United States, has sold more than 136,000 units in its first two days of sale in the US. The numbers confirm that this redesigned handheld conquers not only Japanese hearts, but American gamers' too.
The numbers are quite comparable to those of original DS, which sold half a million units in its first 10 days on sale, and DS Lite is expected to match the success of its older brother. DS Lite is also breaking the records set by another redesigned handheld, Game Boy Advance SP.
The original DS sold more than 1 million copies both in the US and Japan and few months ago the combined sales of DSs had reached a whopping 16 million units. Now that the sales of this slim dual-screened handheld has kicked off, the sales of related software and games has risen, New Super Mario Bros. doubled and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day tripled its sales.
The DS Lite will be released in Europe on June 23.
