As predicted at launch, Samsung has confirmed they have sold 10 million Galaxy S smartphones, just 6 months after launch.
One Galaxy S was sold every two seconds since launch, said the company.

4 million of the units were sold in North America, with another 2.5 million sold in Europe, and 2 million sold in Korea, home of Samsung.
The remaining sales came from different nations around Asia.

Says JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics (via IW):

The Galaxy S is the result of our 22 year heritage in the mobile industry. It is the realization of our concept of 'the Smart Life' - we wanted to makes users' lives more convenient, more exciting, and more integrated. Today's milestone shows that we have succeeded: 10 million Galaxy S users around the world are living the Smart Life.

The device sells for all major carriers in the U.S. and is notable for its large 4-inch Super AMOLED display.
