RIM saw another major service disruption today, although this time it was contained to Europe and Africa.
Users with Vodafone as a carrier lost access to Internet and their e-mail for a number of hours before RIM resolved the issue. Importantly for them, North America, its largest market, was unaffected.
The phone maker last had a similar outage, coincidentally, when Apple launched the iPhone 4S last year. That outage lasted 72 hours in some areas.
New CEO Thorsten Heins apologized, noting that 6 percent of BlackBerry subscribers were affected, about 5 million users.
The company is conducting a "full technical analysis to determine the cause," added the exec.
RIM's stock fell another 6.5 percent, and is now down 97 percent since the launch of the iPhone in 2008.
