Magnavox TB100MW9

Purchased 2 at Walmart. One the remote never did work. The second one, the remote crapped out within 2 years. Have yet to see a 5 star review of this box after 1 year of ownership. Magnavox will sell me a replacement remote for about $20.00 with S&H. Without the crappy remote the box is nothing more than a plastic paperweight. This box has done a great job of flushing the Magnavox name down the toilet for many customers!

Sound volume differs depending on the audio out setting. Select “RF OUT” at step 5 in the “Setup Wizard” on page 13 if you are using the RF connection to pass the signal to the TV and feel the volume is too low.

Pros: Easy setup and usage.
Cons: Does not automatically scan for newly added stations (or at least mine doesn't). It also softens the volume of the channels significantly, making it hard to hear many things and increasing the volume that you have to keep your TV at. Going even further into the cons, I've found several universal remotes on the shelves that already boast compatibity with most Converter boxes, and, hoping to simply my coffee table down to just one remote, I bought one -- but the magnavox wouldn't code into it, so I had to buy another, and another, and one last one -- none of which accepted the magnavox.

I bought this CB on Thanksgiving Day, and i recommend one thing, that you get a rabbit ears antenna and not a flat antenna cause it too difficult to zero in exact stations when you move antenna over the whole wall to get a good picture, and make sure you have an antenna that is amplified, cause I find it next to impossible to get stations without one, even in "direct line on sight" of a digital signal. Other than that, the setup was easy, and like mentioned earlier, you have to point the remote pretty much directly to the unit for it to respond. The program guide is great, with some stations I was getting up to 12 to 24 hours of programming, with is very convenient when wanting to find out what's on. I have seen better CB's but this is an alternative if you have the patience for it.

I bought this box on 5/24/08, and installed it the same day. Has worked fine until today...12/27/08 then two of the channels just disappeared. I redid the set up, unplugged tried again. Still no luck. I then looked the warranty is only 90 days on parts, and labor. 1 yr. on parts if you send it in. I was able to get ahold of customer service on 12/27/08 around 8pm central time. Guess what I was told their was nothing they could do, I would have to pay for labor probably around $50 hr. I plan to take it back to Walmart for an exchange. It is sad this thing only lasted 7 months, and Magnavox would not replace it. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. You cannot control your tv with this unit, and magnavox only covers it for 90 days. ****WALMART WILL NOT TAKE THE UNITS BACK IF OVER 90DAYS OLD...I now have a useless box.

Works fine for 4 months till one day it won't power up. Call the tech support they said box could be fried by power down. Don't recommand the box with no protection.

I bought this converter for use with a rooftop antenna that is approximately 30 feet tall, about three months ago.
I was pleased with the visibly better reception that I was able to get with stations that in analog signals were a bit fuzzy.
I did notice occasionally that some channels that would have come in poorly in analog would sometimes not come in at all in digital, however, I suspect that is the nature of the digital medium.
Also, some weak signals will exhibit artefacting, again a symptom of bad signals in digital.
Now, for the problem.
Over the last two weeks, for some reason known only to God and the engineers at Funai/Magnavox, channel 4 has a perfect picture, but no audio at all.
I have reiniatialized the unit several times, I have switched from RF out to composite, and finally I finally used a brand new identical model converter that I had not plugged into my other TV yet.
You guessed it...only plugging in the brand new converter brought audio to channel four.
I called the tech support line informing them of my adventures, and they advised leaving the unit unplugged for several hours to reset it, offering to do something about getting it sent back for replacement if that would not work.
No dice, it still will not work.
I will withhold further judgement until I see if they make good on replacing this piece of &@*% converter.

We bought two at Wal-Mart. You have to point the remote straight at the box for it to work,the volume is very low, and after calling customer sevice they said "sorry that is just the way it is". I will never buy anything for Phillips Magnavox again!!!

Just purchased Magnavox TB100mw9 converter box atg Wal-Mart. Took it out of the box and hooked it up and would not work. Tried several outlets and different TV's. No luck.

Checking signal strength is awkward. Reception is OK. I live 43 miles from transmitter. The sound is very weak.

Have purchased Magnavox TB100MW9 converter box and it will not work. Called the oompany and they did not care. I fell like Magnavox should replace this box. Some of these boxes are defected. I have not seen a recall on the box, but there should be a recall and the defected boxes should be replaced at no charge.

I paid full price $49.87 at WM. It captured channels quickly. Easy setup. I made the YouTube antenna for indoor use. It pulls in distant stations great. The default CC looks good. It is turned on/off using menu. Able to delete unwanted channels & manually add week ones.Only gripe is lack of TV control with supplied remote. Audio on the R/L outputs only fair.

I have not seen the picture from any other converter box so I can't offer any comparison, but after plugging this one in I was impressed with the results.

I have a roof-mounted antenna, no cable, and no satellite. Stations that were strong before I don't notice much of a change, but some of the weaker signals come in stronger and clearer. There is some lag when flipping channels that I think is common among digital TVs. I think the remote control is poorly designed with the channel up/down buttons very small compared to the other navigation buttons that aren't active in normal use.

I bought two using the $80 ($40x2) discount cards. Setup is simple, operation is simple, quality of signal provided is high via Comcast cable. Very satisfied with this purchase. Those of you using external antennas for TV reception should consider either cable or satellite to optimize you viewing enjoyment.

Does not deal with the problem of multipathing. Only 15 miles from transmitter and this box will not work. My analog signal is good with some ghosting on rabbit ears. I got a perfect picture on analog with a large directional antenna but still nothing on dtv. I do get PBS stations just fine so the unit works with line of sight. I think the DTV multipath problem will be the biggest hurdle to jump on the road to DTV.
