Good console, but does not get enough suppport from thirf party developers. There are games such as Fable, Halo, and Panzer Dragon that stands out but not enough to compete with the juggernaut, ps2. The best feature of this console have to be Xbox Live. If you are not into multiplayer, Xbox is not the system you would get.

Possibly my favorite console of all time. I played so many games on this thing its ridiculous. Late nights with Halo 2 and Moutain Dew Livewire! It got me addicted to first person shooters. It also had great games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I&II. It had dvd playback, which was kinda a rip off cause of the extra thing you had to buy but it was worth it. After someone found out a way to softmod it through the 007 game things really took off. Being able to upgrade the HDD to say 250gb or 500gb meant you could store an immense amount of games on it and play them off of it. Overall this was a great first console for Microsoft and it brings back a lot of memories for me lol "tear"
I bought my first Xbox after my 360 had died, and I am happy to say I am much more happy with it!
I have had no GPU or over-heating problems. It works just as it should and it's QUIET. I really like the S-controller, the original controller's ABXY buttons are weirdly placed in comparison so I prefer the first.
As for the graphics I can't complain, it is an older console and 720p's capability looks great on an standard resolution 21" CRT television that I have it connected to.
They are about $39 used at EB Games and definitely worth all of that and more!
Cheap to buy & cheap to mod,go the extra & install a extender kit & have 3 hdd's,i have with two of my xbx's maaan it's freak'n awasome the only thing that comes close to any modded xbox is the computer & even then it's not as portable, two more xbox's are in the works for the same treatment, they should've kept making them like Sony has with the PS2 what a cry'n shame
You can pick up a xbox for around £20 these days. I would recommend it for the following reasons...
You can mod them for free so long as you have a PC. They can be used as a great media server for all your TV shows and movies stored on your pc or the xbox. I have used with a 50" HD 1080i TV and the quality is still good Its also still quite a playable console to play games
Now that you can pick one up used, I highly recommend getting one and soft-modding it. As one of the posts said, XBMC can stream music and movies from home network, and supports far more formats than the newer 360 does. (Forget about HD content however, the processor is too slow.) Also, you can relive nostalgia by loading one of a number of emulators to the system. I think I've played more NBA Jam, Dr. Mario, Bomberman, etc. on this machine than actual Xbox games. A DEFINITE BUY even for a dead console, due to the ability to mod it!
