Windows Home Server OEM software now available

Windows Home Server is now available from U.S. retailers like Newegg.com and Buy.com. Prices are coming in at just under $200.

Intended to compete with networked home storage solutions that are becoming particularly popular as media servers, Windows Home Server is designed to be run on a headless server, meaning it's controlled from a network connection instead of having a keyboard, monitor, and mouse directly connected.

Although the price may seem like a bargain compared to Vista, since it's only available in an OEM version that limits the support Microsoft will provide.

If you'd prefer to buy a home server with the software already loaded, Hewlett Packard will be releasing one with Windows Home Server for $750 according to information accidentally leaked earlier in the year.

It may be less than vista, but can it also be used as a main OS? Then again, vista can't really be used as a main OS because you have to keep clicking prompts of "accept change" or just not get any prompts making your computer less secure because you don't know if anything is going on... But I digress.

Is turning UAC off in Vista any different than just using XP? :P

And no, as far as I know, Home Server is just a media sharing application and not a true OS.

I was meaning that either your bombarded with questions or you turn it off and receive no notifications at all, notifications that you would get from a decent security program/suite. Of course, vista won't allow you to use anything other than its crappy security program. So it's all or nothing... that being the reason I promptly switched back to XP.
