Analyst: iPad is fastest selling electronics device of all-time

Analyst: iPad is fastest selling electronics device of all-time Analyst Colin McGranahan of Bernstein Research has said today the Apple iPad is the fastest selling gadget of all-time, with an estimated 8.5 million units sold since launch in April.
Leading to the strong sales is the fact that consumers seem to replacing new computer purchases with tablet purchases.

NPD says that 13 percent of iPad owners would have instead purchased a new computer had the tablet not been available.

McGranahan calls the iPad a "runaway success of unprecedented proportion."

Apple has recently made the tablet available via Amazon, Target and Wal-Mart so sales are expected to spike over the holiday season.

people buying ipad for wrong reasons. some of them wanna use it as alternative to e-readers like kindle/nook, some use for browsing/mailing, some for audio/net video, some for all of these. there are still better and/or cheaper alternatives out there.

shhh, don't tell it to a fanboy!

For starters, the Kindle and the Nook are cheaper alternatives...and they do the job better too.

For lite internet/web video/etc, a netbook would be cheaper and far more capable (iPad does not even have flash support). Plus, netbooks running windows have Kindle support (kindle still has the best selection)...as well as decent text to speach.

...and that is assuming you are getting the base model iPad with no 3G...if you are getting a 3G device, then the netbook is even cheaper, and the iPad costs even more!

The naysayers compare "specs", everyone else decides whether they like to use the device for what they want to do. I got one because I needed to experience it to understand it for work ... my wife is using my laptop because I leave it at home all of the time now. Don't need to compare numbers, just use the devices and decide which works for you.

Of course, the argument about other devices is stupid. I don't need to have a kindle, a gaming device, a word processor, a movie watching machine, and a cheap little piece of junk laptop ... it all happens, and it happens well, on the iPad, which is well made, unlike miniature plastic laptops. That appeals to me (and just sounds logical) And it happens anywhere I want to use it. Sorry, it works (and don't tell me about Flash ... it has almost no impact on me). Go ahead, stick with a bag full of other devices, but don't tell other people that the device that is working for them doesn't work ... that's doesn't convince anyone.

I'm as surprised as anyone ... but I use this thing for just about everything. It actually makes the desktop seem too expensive for something that just does a few specialized tasks.

I might take you seriously except for statements like "bag full of other devices", "a few specialized tasks". And so what if Flash is not important to you? - that misses the point.

At the time of writing I am typing this on a 10" EeePC with a comfortable keyboard. It's running Win7 Ultimate, has mics and a camera built in, N wireless, USB ports included etc. Its batteries are replaceable. It bluetooth's to my 3g phone. Heck, it even runs Photoshop much less bittorrent traffic.

For financial stuff I run a Puppy Linux distro off a flashcard for ultimate safety.

If you had said, "I like it, it's cute, it's 'horses for courses'", then I would not be writing this reply moneybags.
