Pirated TV shows are very popular in Sweden According to results from a report entitled "Moving Pictures 2007" released by a Swedish broadcast statistics institute MMS, two out of five of Swedes between the age of 16 and 30 regularly watch pirated TV shows.
"This issue is very important for the future of the TV industry and we will continue to follow this development closely" said Pontus Bergdahl, CEO of MMS.

The report also said that Swedish youngsters and adults watch over an hour of pirated TV every week with Prison Break being the most popular show. 35 percent of the people who watched an episode of Prison Break in the last month indicated that they did not watch it on TV but rather on their computers after downloading the episodes via P2P.

"The Swedish youth will probably continue to download pirated TV-shows unless attractive alternatives are offered to them", says Sorosh Tavakoli the project leader.

Also included in the report were reasons for the massive piracy. The main reason was the fact that people like the liberty to watch a show whenever they please and without commercials. Another prominent reason was many downloaders did not like the delay between a US showing and the Swedish showing. They would rather download it hours after the US showing then wait days for it to be shown on Swedish TV.

TV producers need to take heed of upcoming technologies such as high definition on demand programming if they hope to not lose all their younger audiences.

wow... I didn´t know that downloading a show that was (or will be) shown on TV for free is "piracy"...

Anything you do that doesn't make someone else make money is considered "piracy" lol.

I download WWE programming in India (RAW & Smackdown) like a day or two after it airs in US so I don't have to bother about the 14-day Tape delay!

(Am I going to be banned I hope not)

sorry sorry I try and double check my grammar before posting but the typo demons living with the voices in my head say I must fail :X

if the evil ones would sale a TV series(or movie for that matter) at 3 times the cost of pressing and packageing it (2$X DVD + 5$ case +10$ tin case= 22 for a 6 DVD set or so ) then I would not have much a issue with them however what they now adays is force the buyer to pay a premium fee for buying stuff to make up for their "losses" uhg it gives me a headache...

It seems the CBS is working a deal with Joost a new online video service which allow more of their shows on line.
Right now Joost still does not have much but if they can capture other then the amount of "pirated" shows should go down.

I know that I would not mine putting up with a few commercial to have the ability to watch a show when I want to not just when it is aired.

That's the future my friend, you will choose you content (program), when you wish to view it, from the telecaster, and watch it .. !!

Some telecasters already store the content for viewers .. !!
Not at the viewers home of course, but within the suppliers 'domain' .. !!

Couch potato heads, will triple, as will the butt sizes of some layabouts .. ;)

On the other hand, an indesputable blessing for the incapacitated ..
