Verizon FiOS now boasts of 50 Mbps download speed

Verizon FiOS now boasts of 50 Mbps download speed Only a month after they began offering a symmetrical 20 Mpbs download and upload speed option for their FiOS internet service, Verizon has announced that for double the price of the current service, users can get download speeds of maximum 50 Mbps along with 20 Mbps uploads.
Although just the thought of those speeds must excite file sharers, the prices may not. The fastest option will cost you $139.95 USD per month while the slower connection will run you $69.99 USD per month.

FiOS is currently available in only 16 states and so far the fastest option is only confirmed in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Here we have to pay $45 a month for 1.5Mbps. I doubt it will change in the next decade. :(

How is that overpriced? Currently I pay $45 a month for 14 Mbps download and not very fast upload, paying $140 for 4 times my speed doesn't seem very overpriced does it?

421.11.2007 19:55

No kidding, that is not expensive for a 50/20 connection at all.

521.11.2007 20:57

Who would pay 45 bucks a month for 1.5Mbps?

621.11.2007 21:23

yeah thats pretty ridiculous.. i pay 50 for 8mb

721.11.2007 21:51

Jeez. Not all areas have such wide availability or competition between providers. Dont see why you guys have to knock somebody for how much they are paying for a connection.

821.11.2007 21:57

1322.11.2007 03:57

weird i used to remember paying 45-55 for 1.5 dsl or 43.xx what ever for my i think 3mb cable which just got uped to 6mb for i think 44 it is now, so for those speeds it is great! If i where single it would be a definite GO! for me!!! :)

1422.11.2007 09:58

I pay $75 a month for a 15mb connection. And thats bundled with my phone.
My download obviously rocks, but upload sucks ass. I'm guessing its ranked about 1.5mb. I would GLADLY pay the rate for FiOS, especially for that kind of upload.

1522.11.2007 12:26

Well i pay for 8 Mbps 50 euro a month:( so yes Verizon FiOS is very cheap

1622.11.2007 12:57

im in da uk and have a package, tv phone and broadband, the broadband is 16mb and only £10 thats $20. But like all internet connections the download speed isnt actually 16mbs it changes all the time sometimes its 100kbs sometimes 500kbs and sometimes 1.6mbs download speed. The company im talking about is Sky.

1722.11.2007 16:09

Thats pretty fast....

Speed is great, but one must also wonder if they cap the upload and download total data for each month. If would suck to have that speed and then be charged more money after 100 GIG/month. As long as its unlimited...then the price isn't bad.

I live in Korea and this is the plan I have, one year contract $40 a month 100mb down 100mb up.

"Korea’s Fastest Special Internet!
This ultra-fast Internet service service is enabled through the FTTH and VDSL lines for professionals.
The fastest Internet service in the true sense of the word, it guarantees 100Mbps and the highest
stability.

Standard Service Monthly Fee (excl. VAT)
(unit:KRW)
3 year contract 2 year contract 1 year contract No period Speed
(Downlink/Uplink)1)
34,000 36,000 38,000 40,000 100M / 100M "

1922.11.2007 22:01

Well in mexico you pay about $400 for 8Mbps

2023.11.2007 06:03

By the way the sky broadband i have is UNLIMITED!

2123.11.2007 10:48

Well here in my little belize i pay $185.00 for a 256kbs connection which is ridiculous.

2223.11.2007 11:35

Well, I just got off the phone with Verizon pricing out a total Fios package. Faster internet speed and I will be saving money. Comcast eventually will be Compost.

You DO have fantastic package. My daughter in NJ - USA has a 52 mbps - 25mbps guaranteed - package for around $50/- per month which I considered fantastic.

Right now I am paying $42.95 (part of a package deal) for supposedly 12mbps downstream and 1.5Mbps upstream. The reason I say supposedly is those times if/when comcast decides NOT to block bittorrent and other P2P apps. Bastards! They are a monopoly. If only AT&T would get their act together and bring out their U-verse (Verizon is not even available in Georgia) I would switch. Because next month when I move and get rid of Comcast for TV and go with satellite, my internet prices jump to $76 monthly for the same crappy speed and service to which they subject us. The only alternative is slower DSL service and I am NOT taking that step backward.

So good for Verizon, too bad they are not here in GA and AT&T are dragging their feet.

The faster speed is still too much for people to afford and the slower speed is still a better deal because its more reasonable to have thaty cause its faster than the speed that we are currently getting.

Verizon triple play offer in my area is $99.99 for internet, television, and telephone. Also they are offering a free 19" LCD Hd television thrown in or a $200.00 gift cerficicate at Best Buy. They offered me a connection speed of 20mbs download 10,000 mbs.upload for $10.00 more per month. The internet speed is great, the television is superb. However, the telephone service has cut out 4 times in the last week and I am not sure if it has been sorted out yet. I won't be happy until I get a reliable fios telephone connection. It appears that with the phone service anything that could possibly have gone wrong has. The installer told me to call them in January and request the upload of 15mbs will be added at no additional cost. I can't speak highly yet of Verizon until my phone service is restored and beomes reliable.
