Sony has added that "We don't know anything about the system in the photos, we currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3".
The pictures:
They were always screwed on PS3. PS3 graphics for the game suck in comparison to 360. In the marketplace right now, I think developers like EA are more likely to care about 360 support than PS3 support.
If they whip out a PS3 that thin and it doesn't burst into flames from overheating, I'll eat my socks.
I'm gonna need better pictures of this thing before I can tell if it looks good or not. Right now it looks like it's the same size, just not as fat.
Why are Rock Band players screwed? It says two USB ports, which is what I have and we play 4 players here since the Rock Band USB hub is $5 at Target.
this would really help with cost so a price cut could be possible. And really if who care about rock band, stupid game anyway. And no the 360 dose not look better.
Yukkk
that thing don't look any better than the current PS3, the PSX still looks nice compared to that.
(yes i do still have a PSX, it comes in handy)
Obviously a fake. The PS3 in the top photos doesn't look like the PS3 on the box in the bottom. And the top photo is also just as obviously the top COVER of the regular PS3, I mean sheesh.
I think it may be the real deal...perhaps they opted for the same plastic as the slim PS2? I think it only looks ugly here cause it's a nasty pic....in the end who knows? Still I do like that font change. The Spiderman 3 font is a little...ugh. Just try and picture this model in a sexy glass case?
No, I'm serious. Look at the box, the PS3 there has plastic under it where you slide the disc in, with the eject and power button in the same place as the PS3 does now. That's a picture of a current PS3.
hahah
http://tech2.in.com/media/images/img_238...n-3-console.jpg
it looks like the top half of a normal ps3 to me :-p
MAybe its not, the existing ps3 has a curve to the top plate side the one in the leak does not...
Well remember the PSP 3000 photos from a while back. They looked odd and terrible just like this but it turned out to be real and nice. Plus it just goes hand in hand with all the rumors....it's too much to be fake. Excellent box, decent system....
Remember these?

As I posted in another thread it looks to have been partially confirmed as real (from an insider in the know), but an earlier version of something that is much improved over what has been leaked so far.
There is also other supporting factors like how in 2 pictures there is a pink covering ~
that is similar to the workstations used by Sony employees to build the PS3
Along with how how the motherboard already is almost halved in size currently
And lastly this picture looks REALLY close for a "fake"
Again as I said in the other post they will probably announce it during E3, drop the price on the current models and then release the Slim around the Holiday season (probably also add a bundle with GT5/FF13 etc. for killer sales).
There are A LOT of things going on for Sony this year and from all the info I have, E3 will be an eye opener say the least.
If they do release a slim version, I'd love to see the size of the power brick! I wonder if it will be bigger than the 360's?
I heard that the PS3 uses a lot more electricity than the 360 in some article that compared electricity usage of all 3 consoles (wii uses a lot less than both) so the power brick will be huge probably.
Originally posted by Runescope:If that's the top of the regular PS3 than they must be changing the font on top as right now it is spelled out Playstation 3, and the picture just says PS3.

Plus when idling, browsing & other minor usages it is definitely lower...now during gameplay it *might* be higher but I have to double check the 360's power consumption stats. Either way, it shouldn't be drastically more IF it is.

nice slim hope they have have a slimer harddrive
The harddrive is already a 2.5 slim laptop drive, the only other option for them would be to go to solid state or flash etc...but that would be MUCH more $$$$$
Personally, I hope this pics are fake because it looks UGLY. Hope I never have to replace my 60GB model with one of these!

Looks pretty cool, and coming out sooner than I expected. But not interested in it unless it has an internal PS; which looks unlikely.

Originally posted by kikzm33z:+1 on relevancy...it is not 100% confirmed but as of right now it's pretty close to it from what I have gathered. But we'll see. As far as the internal PSU I hope so as well but going by previous "PS Slims" I would bet not.

Anyhow... It's most likely to be fake, unless this new Slim PS3 comes with some giant power brick and some other stuff.

Quote:Oh, I know. I saw the pics several days ago elsewhere. Even though the mobo is smaller, the case almost looks like a LARGER footprint compared to the current model. I don't really care if the power supply is internal or external as some others have commented on...internal PS devices tend to go bad faster than external PS ones. And by the way, it looks like the mobo comparison pics are showing the old 60GB w/ hardware PS2-compatibility mobo as the old mobo. KINDA fishy.Originally posted by xnonsuchx:These are very early pics of which are not the final product (as I stated earlier)

Quote:For the record, the Falcon revision of the 360 cut the power usage from 165W to 90W and they kept the power brick the same size. In Microsoft's case they're focusing on keeping the system reliable rather than saving space. I believe the Jasper revision which uses even less power still uses the big power brick.Originally posted by inagasake:Not entirely correct. I think it MIGHT be a legit pic of A proposed prototype new model case, but I kinda doubt it's a final new case design. I know Sony mentioned a redesigned PS3 as a set-top box component ('box' case?) back in 2007, which kinda seems more realistic to me.
Also like some have said (at least elsewhere), Sony's USUAL response to rumors are "No comment"-type responses, but for these pics, have said, "Totally bogus," which seems like a more weighty denial.
I'm still waiting for one of these "A PS3 price cut is imminent" claims to come true ("imminent" meaning within the next 6 months...Hell, _I_ could be THAT accurate on a lot of things!).
Originally posted by sammorris:Thanx Sam, I had no end of trouble for some reason trying to find recent valid info to add to the comparison. I did find some tests showing how at different stages (idle, browsing, watching, playing etc.) and it showed varied results but for gaming the PS3 definitely consumes more. The only other thing I forgot to add is how the PS3's PSU is a universal one so anyone can use theirs just about anywhere with just a simple prong adapter without the need for a power/voltage converter; but I wonder if that would affect it's consumption in any way? Probably not, plus will it be the same feature if a Slim is released is what I would like to know.

If it's gonna be that small then it has to be cheaper... Their cuttin' off a lot of crap based on that pic lol
Switching PSUs tend to have a higher leakage current, but power usage should still be pretty indifferent.
worlds largest testicle revealed in dream - daily star
or is it a shopped pic of Dubyah? can we tell.. do we care?

Back to the topic at hand in discussion...here is some more info of which supports the probability of the Slim
Quote:Seems like a confirmation to me...
MainTek (the manufacturer) requested the removal of these images from the website that originally posted the photographs (LevelUp - Chinese) that stated ~
"We would like to ask you kindly remove the following pages of your pages on your website because the page contains MainTeK Computer Incorporation confidential document and photos, which were illegally released and posted on your website."
Looks like others are believing the validity of these pics...First LevelUp, then Spong, now Engadget and another. If they where fakes why issue cease and desist orders via lawyers? Especially with the odd kicker of "asking" for the C&D letter to be confidential?
