Acer surpasses Dell in global PC shipments Earlier this year, Acer president Gianfranco Lanci predicted that his company would overcome Dell for second place in global PC shipments, and it appears his dream has come true.
New IDC data figures show that Acer has in fact surpassed Dell for second place, with both manufacturers still behind HP, as of the Q3 2009.

"Between this quarter and the next, we can finally pass Dell," Lanci added. "I would expect not only to pass Dell very soon, but also to breach the gap with HP."

According to IDC, HP is in first at 20.2 percent market share, followed by Acer at 14 percent, and Dell in third with just under 13 percent. Lenovo remained in fourth with 9 percent market share and Toshiba came in fifth at 5.2 percent.

Gartner figures released the same day have slightly different numbers but the same lineup.

Dell remains the number one manufacturer in the United States, however, slightly above HP, but far ahead of Acer.

Duh! That's because just about everyone and their mother already have Dells.

As for Hp..............They have 1 F'ing person to thank for their recent success (which was essentially catapulted) and that's Carly Fiorina.

Big business sucks! The American way of doing business is disgraceful and no throats are exempt from being cut. Tsk Tsk........Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, etc etc etc.

Integrity should be key when conducting business.

@LissenUp: I wonder if you realise that as you take a nice line of bitching about modern american bussiness methods, and profess your love for Fiorina, you even understand that Fiorina was one of the first leaders to wholeheartedly EMBRACE those methods.

She was the godmother of them literally, from lobbying the congress, to being one of the trailblazers of running a major company in full accordance with those methods, to actually writing a book on them.

HP was a very solid company before she took helm. It lost vast majority of its creative talent during Fiorina's reign due to her draconian employment policies enforced from the top. It also lost over half of it's stock price during Fiorina's reign, where it's main competitor at time - dell ganed over 10%. Fiorina was to HP what Caligula was to Rome. Please, at least do bother reading on the topic you're bitching about next time.

I have read quite a bit smartass so pipe down. Granted I have not ready everything there is about her and I don't read conspiracy theory columns as maybe you do but I will give your statement some credit as it may be correct to SOME degree.

Hp was in fact NOT DOING great before her and during her reign is when it increased in business..............just not to the satisfaction of the board of dir.

Now YOU READ THIS..........This seems to dispute pretty much everything you say and it has references to back it up.

people buy acer??????

hmph. i don't trust it. when i see acer in the stores i think of e-machines.

didn't acer take over somebody (like gateway or something)? or am i thinking of someone else?

nonetheless, maybe they're doing so well b/c they are cheaper (in price) than the other two. or am i wrong there too?

You need to read up on the history of PCs.

In teh late '80s - early '90s Acer was probably the first contract manufacturer of PCs for other brands bar none. They even supplied components ( mobos, cabinets) + PCS in CKD forms to other assemblers - and I categorize DELL as an assembler. At that time they were the number one in the world.

In today's market place ACER is the best value for money.
