Nokia sues Apple over patent infringement related to iPad Nokia, the world's largest phone maker, has sued Apple again this week, this time over patent infringement related to the iPad 3G.
The five patents "involve technology used to enhance speech and data transmission and antenna innovations for compact devices."

Nokia and Apple are currently in a giant dispute over patents relating to the iPhone, and this latest suit is just the next step in a battle that should continue for years as the two companies fight over smartphone market share.

"We've taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia's innovation," sasy Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing at Nokia, via the BBC.

Nokia adds that over the last twenty years they have spent $50 billion USD on R&D, and collected 11,000 patents.

im no fan of either company but you see this is what we get,i dont have an iphone or ipad im noy defending apple in any way but nokia would have never developed the either device, with patents or copyrights it prevents other companys from taking the technology one greater step further, i know why there are patents but it does more harm than good, then that technology is suppresed or burried and worthless to the world ,just because big corporations cant capitalize on it so they kill it, so no one else can use it, but when others do something simmilar companys like nokia cry about it and sue, it should be about the people and the needs of the many, not buisness

Everyone knows its much more profitable to gamble with Lawyers, then to actually innovate. Clearly Nokia is scared... and they should be.

both companies are patent trolls, "Steve Jobs has apparently claimed that a patent pool is being assembled to "go after" Ogg Theora, the open source video codec used by the latest browsers from Google, Mozilla, and Opera." http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/30/..._theora_attack/ its the new way to make money in the tech industry
