LA Noire causing overheating for some console owners

Complaints have started to come in that the new blockbuster game "LA Noire" is causing overheating issues for some Xbox 360 and PS3 owners.
Those users have experienced continual freezing during gameplay.

Rockstar initially said it might be issues with Sony's recent firmware update to 3.61, but Sony was quick to turn on the blame back on the developer:

Rockstar have now updated their FAQ on the matter, and have admitted that it is a fault with their latest title LA Noire.

There is no word on when Rockstar will release a patch, but they have posted a temp fix for the time being if you are one of the few affected.

Game looks like it would get boring pretty fast anyway.

Update: ran the game for a few hours now runs great so far temp of my ps3 is good too using slim model.

Sony and Microsoft are to blame; they are the ones who turn down the fan speed with firmware updates. A game should be able to use 100% of system resources...and the game console should be able to handle doing it for extended periods.

Take heed, PS3 owners: No matter what problem you are having with your PS3 -- overheating, crashing, inability to access a dismanted PS3 network, stolen personal information, or anything else -- it's not Sony's fault.

Doesn't that make you feel better?

as i dont actually own my ps3 and only rent it from sony then surely if it breaks they wil replace it with another free of charge

According to Sony, you only paid for a 1-year rental...if you have had your system longer than that, then they see it as you stealing system rental fees from them; that is why the firmware updates are written to kill older systems.

Now that is the most impractical and ridiculous statement I have EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!

Of course if there are problems with the game then it's understandable that waiting for a patch would be wise rather than dealing with the frustration of crashing games BUT.......you just suggested that the user preempt the game's "Possibility" of having problems by NOT playing "for too long" until a patch comes out. So what if the game is working???..............quit playing and assume a problem will occur sometime in the near future then wait for the patch??????????? Nonsense!

I'm sorry............am I reading this correctly...........is this nincompoop actually saying "it's not Sony's fault"?????

What planet are you from? When did you learn to walk? At 6 years old? Did you inhale something dangerous?? I'm actually stupified by this unbelievable statement absolving Sony from their responsibility of creating a safe and secure network and manufacturing a safe product that doesn't catch fire.

Perhaps you were being sarcastic. Although one would NOT be able to tell that from your statement, please accept my apology if that is the case but remember to clarify you point of view next time.

Lighten up, Francis.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. Maybe you noticed the part of the article that said "Sony was quick to turn on the blame back on the developer . . . ." My comment was noting that, lately, Sony seems to be having lots of problems, and they seem to blame it on everyone else. With the exception of you, I think almost everyone else caught on to my sarcasm.

I don't own anything made by Sony, and I don't intend to. I have no respect for the fact that, under the guise fighting anti-piracy, they sued a guy who was guilty of nothing but trying to help people make their PS3s function better. I have no respect for the fact that, when the network went down, they initially blamed hackers for bringing it down, and only later acknowledged that Sony itself had pulled the plug on the network after identifying security issues (which hackers had begun to exploit, but that's different than saying hackers took down the network). Now, they are blaming game developers for the fact that their hardware overheats. It wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if the end result of these fiascos is that Sony's market share crashes through the floor.

IM SO pissed! My ps3 had never overheated. I Got an original 80 gig. Its been good to me, Ive had it on all night before and never overheated once. Fuck that game. Im taking it back, Ive had it for two days and I cnt play it for more than 30 min without it acting up!

I dont think he understood your sarcasm because he is not up to date with the Sony geohot case and anonymous recent activity.
Sony really has a lot to redeem itself. Not just giving a couple free games could make us all happy.

Makes perfect sense. Overheating fat ps3's are a real issue. This game triggers overheating. Perfectly sound advice if you have any idea what your ps3 can handle. If you've owned it for 2 years, and your fans kick into airplane take-off overdrive, then there is a very good chance a game like this will YLOD you.

look as a user of sony's latest and greatest we all knew some day they would someday push past it and then we would be left wanting for the new ps4 or what ever they want to call it.. maybe sony should just build a tv top stand alone this way the can update it and let us play games.... not that I wanted the games but ,well I'd give them credit for the games if you could download them so why haven't they put a push on that being the first thing they fix... but at this point they haven't done anything but talk about what they wish they could do.. most of us have bought games we wanted to play that work and now the games are starting to overheat the units maybe this time it's some rockstar programers issue making the game to massive and causing the video card or the processor to over heat would love to know which it is... anyone with a heat reader to test the board while the game is running?

Actually.....I'm 100% in the "know" about Sony and GeoHot EVERYTHING going on but unless people convey sarcasm in their writings, most won't know if it's just a dumb comment or not. Frankly.......there are so many that make dumb comments on AD that it's hard to tell.

Sarcasm was NOT apparent in this but I understand now.

Sarcasm seemed apparent to me. "Take heed....no matter what the problem..its not Sony's fault" (paraphrasing) implies to me that Sony is the one absolving themselves of all responsibility. The question imposed by SoTired "doesn't that make you feel better?" makes it quite apparent that his prior comment was meant as sarcasm.

Frankly....there are so many people on the web that choose to jump down others throats with insults first rather than show respect to a fellow member.

I learned a while ago, you need to use [sarcasm] at the start and [/sarcasm] at the end...like so:

[Sarcasm]Now that sony has been hacked 5 times, I am sure they will have good security in the future[/sarcasm]

Otherwise, people just think you are some Sony fanboy or something.
