Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) is a free utility that can help to keep your computer secure.

It is not an anti-virus or anti-malware utility. Rather, Secunia PSI scans your computer and checks executable, dll and OCX files against a database to determine whether they are out-of-date or otherwise vulnerable to attack.

Third party software, such as Adobe Flash Player, may have security weaknesses. Once these are detected, they are fixed by their developers (usually) and an update is released. In cases, users might not get these updates, meaning that their overall security may be under threat.

Secunia PSI scans your computer regularly for changes, and compares information on your software to a database that can help to flag if a certain piece of software is vulnerable. In cases, it gives direct links to download updates and patches to fix the problem.

This software is well worth a try, but should not be used as an alternative to security software such as anti-virus utilities.
