Actually I had great success using this FREE tool to convert old servers to VMs in hyperV. In my test system, it worked on the first try, I turned off the physical and have been running virtual for 4 months. I was also able to recover a 2003 server that did not have a backup image. I had a month old test VHD, so I mounted the VHD in WIN7, imaged the virtual drive to a physical drive, and then booted the server OK. Aside from a disk signature issue, I was able to boot the physical server from a saved VHD file. Nice! Saved my butt and a lot of hours rebuilding the OS, drivers, SQL and apps. Since the tool runs on a LIVE OS, Ill now schedule monthly server image archives to a NAS box using this tool.
