Kindle 2 adds PDF support, large battery life improvement Amazon has announced that the Kindle 2 has now been given native PDF support, removing the annoying conversion process formerly necessary to convert PDFs to Kindle formats for playback.
The firmware update will be available "soon" and will install wirelessly when you connect to the Internet from your device. Users can email PDFs to their Kindle address or manually load them via USB transfer.

Just as importantly, Amazon says the firmware update will significantly update the Kindle 2's battery life by up to 85 percent when connected to wireless. Previously, users had about 4 days of battery life with wireless enabled. That has been bumped up to a week.

The original Kindle should also be getting the PDF support.

I wonder if there will be some sort of check for unauthorized copies of books and Amazon will wipe it from your Kindle or brick it. I wouldn't put it past them.

Perhaps in future versions, all hail the Apple of ebooks?

Still don't trust it...and I cannot trust any kindle...unless they add a switch that allows me to set the memory to read-only, even for the updates and deletions. Even then, I would have my doubts if the switch actualy stopped them from deleting things.

Yes, it is like an apple...it has DRM, it is overpriced, it is in a white case, and a ton of morons have bought one. I'll wait for the B&N unit to get affordable.

Is it just me, or perhaps does it take a firmare update JUST to get long battery life. It's not like in the old days, when you got a product, you got it battery and all without any crippling affects. Nowadays, it take an update to get the benfit of any product instead of having these feature upfront already when you open the box of the product.
