Sony patents PSP phone concept

Sony patents PSP phone concept In a new patent granted to the company entitled "Mobile Information Terminal Apparatus", Sony-Ericsson seems to imply that it can make a balance between serious gaming and phones, a concept that has been tried but has so far failed.
The patent describes the new device that is similar in shape to the Sony gaming handheld PSP but that also includes a swiveling screen that is reminiscent of the Samsung i7. The screen would allow for both movie watching and gaming and can rotate either 90 or 180 degrees.

The description also claims that advanced software would play a role in the new phone. The phone would always monitor for incoming calls and would pause the game to handle the conversation. To resume, ou can either start from the immediate pause point, at the current level, or shut down the game completely.

Although there was no indication that a phone was upcoming, Sony-Ericsson can now do so without worrying about copies.

wow that is pretty cool!

Yeah that is pretty cool, I just hope that if their is a final product that it will be a bit slimmer than the blueprint shown. Maybe its just me but that "thing" looks a bit chunky down below.

Are we going back to the 80's ?
Sure hope it ain't the size of the original PSP
Also I don't see the point in the swivel, why not lengthwise for the phone and widthwise for game play.
Also guess people like myself will have to throw out our original PSP's in order to obtain the PSP phone.

This thing looks immensely uncomfortable to hold. I don't want one.

give me a PSP with 2 analog sticks okay? thnx.

This is kewl and all, but why do we need to complicate matters. Why don't consumers just make things simple for themselves. If they want a phone why don't you just get a phone if you want a game device get a device that does only what you want, not multiple functions and then if it breaks you loose more than you bargained for.

Does it have built in camera too?

It's for people that don't want to carry around everything since it can get pretty unconfortable to carry around a psp, cellphone, and media player in your pants pockets. If they put a 20gb had in this and gave it the capabilities of the Cowon A2 then this would be the best device ever.

PS. If you just buy a good protective case for it (like I did for my psp) then you wouldn't have to worry about creaking it.

would i have to go into a phone plan contract to get that or sumthing cuz i dun wanna replace my cell phone plan just to get this. or will this be sumthing you can buy like at walmart?

The smart thing to do since this seems to be road they are trying to take is make 2 different versions of the PSP. 1 with the normal capabilities of playing games, media player, internet, maybe if they do TV outlet, and other features similar to whats on the PSP now with the dual analog sticks and fixed D-Pad and so on. 2 then offer the PSP phone with touch screen would be nice but probably will end up over kill as with all the other features this thing will probably have in it. I feel as long as they make it correctly and not rush it out with bugs galore and game and phone call lockups due to, to many functions interacting at the same time this would be cool. Now the last keys to this working out great is the "Battery" and "Design" for both models. I know alot of people will feel the same on this. We dont want a product with all this shit and it dies after 20minutes of use. That is a complete waste of time and money. Hopefully bluetooth will be in both if they do the PSP this way.

Oh if they make the PSP with features of being able to be integrated with your existing cell plan with out having to get into another contract this will be one of their best idea's. Saves us time money and the hassle of paying more money then needed.

Also they better not screw us with this with a price over $300 or their will be screwing their selves royally. You can only introduce so many products on the market with high prices so many times before people will just stay away and not bother with it.

my that thing is ugly.

Rather just phone than ûber PSP-Phone modification. Line needs to be drawn somewhere, but this surely goes over it.

Will it come with a flux capasitor or do you buy it separatly?

155.6.2007 06:40

Whats a flux capasitor? heard of it in a movie I think, but don't remember which one.

Yo check this link out. The design of this LG phone looks damn near like that sketch of the PSP phone they want to do. Sony better re-think their design before they get slapped with another law suit if this is the one they want to use.
