PSP firmware update unleashes full CPU power

Sony America has confirmed that the latest PSP firmware update, 3.5, has removed the software restriction that has capped the CPU speed of the handheld at 266 MHz.
The PSP is capable of a clock speed of 333 MHz, but it was locked at 80% of its full processing power most likely to lengthen battery life.

Now, thanks to the update, developers are able to code for the full speed and new titles currently in development will be coded for the new clock speed.

Take this news with a grain of salt however, because although the new games will run at higher frame rates, your battery will drain quicker.

Could this be the first step towards a complete overhaul and redesign of the PSP?

He strikes again :/ In all honesty, bumping up the bus speed doesnt really make that big of an impact, perhaps because of the limitation. Hopefully developers will put this extra boost of cpu power to use though and actually make a WORTHWHILE game instead of the garbage currently available.

Hopefully with this update this will lead Sony to making better quality games across the board for the PSP even though i dont have a issue with the PSP game quality. But it will be nice to see better looking games for the future especially if they make the revamped PSP 20x better then the current version which i think is the shiznit.

Give me a second analog stick, Sony. Then I can use my old PSP as a 333mhz Remote Control and use my new one to play the games I'll actually buy from you.

There better not be a complete "overhaul"! I just bought mine yesterday!

They'll just come out with a better longer-lasting battery, I hope.

The way to get around this is just keep it charging while playing.

Now, doesn't that defeat the point of having a mobile gaming device?

yeah this isn't new info for DevHook Users. and the little bit of speed didn't make a difference anyway. only the developers can really maximize the uncapped speed. i can tell u tho. those shrunk games like prince of persia rival swords really does need a speed boost since its running alot of polygons.

sony should sell the official branded 2200mah battery for the psp. its supposed to be 20% better in life. well thats my take on it.

personally im still a devhook user. but i might have to try OE out. these new games require it and i loathe flashing of any type...

Honestly, I bought Two PSPs one from Ebay when they first came out and then a more recent one, my reason was to have my first one since its original OS was 1.0 to update it wil a Hacked OS a friend of mine used, and the other I've kept up to date with the latest ver. 3.50 here in the Us.

but what ills me is prcessing power on either one is the fact, that a hacked OS and a SONY one can neither multitask, thats sucks, yes I got a ton of different stuff, but I can't listen to mucis, and look at pics or surf the web all at the same time, and plus what really sucks, is you'd think Atari would allow you to upload your own music for TDU, but sadly you can't, maybe an update for that sould come out ahh my fellow hackers(since I'm not one) and the SONY friends(sadly not one of those either)
