Rumor: Xbox Next to be unveiled in 2012

Rumor: Xbox Next to be unveiled in 2012 According to sources speaking to Edge, the Xbox Next/720 will be launched in 2012 in order to beat out rivals Nintendo and Sony.
The source says Ubisoft Montreal "is currently working with next generation target boxes based on the intended specifications of Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor."

Furthermore, a few other major developers, like EA, also have the units.

The "target boxes" are PCs with components about equal to the specs of the upcoming console. AMD is said to be providing the GPU.

If accurate, the sources say Microsoft will make some announcements at CES in January for the game console launching in late 2012.

Looks like nintendo won't have the market to themselves for half a year.

I hope it uses x86 components and windows; I am going back to PC after this generation is over (very soon) and I would like to have access to games within 6 months of release as well as the exclusives.

I would think MS would hold off announcing 720 until E3.

If the Windows 8 integration stories are correct then you may well get your wish there KB.

The next gen is going to be interesting, with res pretty much fixed at the TV rating of 1080p & refresh rates also constrained to 50/60Hz of the majority 2D TVs (with 3D option no doubt offering higher) there's a lot there that's pretty much nailed down & fixed.
I suspect they are going to end up a lot like now, looking & sounding much the same with very minor differences between them.

Seeing as they stepped up with a class leading warranty I wouldn't worry.
I cannot see them just blithely making those kinds of hardware mistakes ever again.
It would kill the brand, pure & simple & they know it.
They're not that dumb.

In fact if you want to bet on which console will be the most reliable of the coming gen I'd bet a large wad on it being the Microsoft offering, in view of what happened with the 1st Xenon mobo version & the Zephyr mobo SKUs of Xbox 360.

hence the reason why in the first year, or two, its hardware ALWAYS fails. lol. i always wait atleast a year to buy the systems. so they get the bugs out. since we all know m$'s products ALWYAS fail right away. take it slow and get it right the first time. not take it fast woohoo we beat sony and wii out of the gate. but take a loss in the end repairing and relacing there crap.
lol

Doesn't surprise me, they'll no doubt try and launch it close to the launch of halo 4.

It is Microsoft...they make unreliable software and hardware that is even less reliable than that. When I was doing PC service a while back I accumulated a pile of broken MS mice and keyboards about 6 feet high, a stack of broken logitech mice & keyboards about 6 inches high, and a stack of all other brand mice and keyboards about 2 feet high. ...And that is just low tech stuff that can't overheat!

im on my 3rd keyboard and mouse.first one was logitech and second was prostat (a cheap made in china brand).got another logitech keyboard & mouse for $10 new.

as for the rumour what ever happened to the rumour that microsoft were making a handheld console???

we just have to wait and see what they come up with.

I agree too! :)

Well, yes, 360 had the RROD, which they combated with a hefty warranty. I waited until the 360 Elite came out and got the RROD about 2 years after. Only took 2 weeks to get my new 360 in the mail. PS3 had security issues well after their release. They responded with some free crapware that they assumed we were going to enjoy. Either way, waiting for the "bugs" to get out doesn't really make sense these days.

Come to think of it, the Wii is the only console to never have serious problems. Of course that system is the least played out of the the 3 I own.

I still have about a 20 game backlog for my 360. I'm going to try and finish those b4 I splurge on the 720. I have a feeling the 360 games are prob going to look like crap on the 720 and/or I'm going to get spoiled with the updated graphics on the 720, either way. I wonder if xbox live will accessible for owners with either console. Prob not knowing Microsoft. It would provide incentive for people to get the new console.

Kind of interesting that that's how they do it. Send a pc with the same specs.

And hope they launch on Friday.
