Spoitfy launches free radio for iOS users

The unlimited music streaming service Spotify will offer a free radio service to iPad and iPhone users in the U.S.
Spotify's move will put it into even tighter competition with Pandora, Slacker and others.

Until today, the mobile access cost $10 per month, but the new free subscription adds audio ads. The ads will entice users to pay for the subscription service, which will strip all ads and still offer unlimited music on mobiles.

"We found those that use radio are really some of the most highly engaged users of Spotify," said Charlie Hellman, Spotify's vice president of product. "They stay longer and are more likely to upgrade."

Spotify has 3 million paying subscribers, and just over 10 million active users.
