Microsoft unveils Windows 8 upgrade plans Microsoft has detailed its Windows 8 upgrade plans, including how it works for XP, Vista and Win 7 users.
If you are running Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, or Home Premium, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro with all of your system settings, personal files, and applications intact.

Windows 7 Pro or Enterprise owners can update to Windows 8 Enterprise with system settings, personal files, and applications intact.

If you are running Vista without SP1 will only have personal files preserved. Vista SP1 users will have personal files and system settings transferred.

XP owners with SP3 can upgrade directly to Windows 8, but only personal files will be saved. XP SP1 and XP SP2 users, well, sorry.

In regards to cross-architecture upgrades, 32bit can only upgrade to 32bit, and the same for 64bit.

I wonder if 64-bit XP users even have an option as there was NEVER a SP3 for 64-bit XP.

What about ultimate users??? As for xp64, I think microsoft has forgotten they ever made it...as have the driver teams at most peripheral manufacturers.

As I have read...........seems that the "pro" references to the Ultimate.

Either way..........Windows 8 is a total flop inevitability. No business will EVER EVER EVER EVER adopt and that's kinda a necessity as I see it. I won't touch with 10 foot pole.

I attempted to beta test W 8, as I have done on many of MS OS.
I reformatted my drive to free myself of this travesty after suffering for 2 weeks. This OS will exceed Windows ME in uselesness. Even with MS keeping ver 6.xx.xxx most device software refused to install, citing the os, especially HP drivers. W8 reports installed OK but try to use the device-no way.

The main Windows 8 screen is dumb and ugly. In fact it is terrible. The operating system is impossible to navigate. It is hard to find the settings screens to make changes and works no better than Windows 7. It is simply a way to take your money and get nothing in return. Keep It ! p.s. One thing I will say is Internet Explorer 10 is much better. Faster and Better Video Look !
