Next Xbox to be called Xbox 8?

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 05 Jul 2012 1:24 User comments (22)

Next Xbox to be called Xbox 8? Some evidence this week suggests that Microsoft's upcoming console will be called "Xbox 8" instead of Xbox 720 or Xbox Next.
Microsoft secured a handful of domains from a Chinese citizen, after winning their case in the National Arbitration Forum.

A few of the domains include XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com, XboxCompanion.com, Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org.

Naming the console Xbox 8 would be a smart move for Microsoft, who is set to unveil their Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems later this year, each of which integrate with all Microsoft products.

The console is expected for the holiday season next year.

I still think Xbox the 3rd would ring off pretty well.

similar to richard the third (slang).. I like your thinking :)

I don't know why they don't call it "Kevin"

I can see it working well but what will they call the xbox after that? xbox 4? I like the name 720 actually.

For example google called their tablet nexus 7 for 7" what will they call this years nexus phone? Nexus 4? Leaves the consumer confused.

After Xbox 8 there won't be any new Xboxes :)

Maybe all the next gen systems can be named to go with a theme. They can go with "Kung Pow! Enter the fist"

Nintendo already named their system "Wii U".

Microsoft can call their system "Betty" and Sony can call their system "Wimp Lo".

There, problem solved.

It makes sense because it's a MS product but it just does not sound as good as the Xbox 720 or Xbox Next. Maybe I just got used to people calling it that because it didn't and still doesn't have a confirmed name. If they call it Xbox 8 will it run a modified or full version of Windows 8? That would make some sense, why tie Windows 8 into a gaming console that besides its makers have nothing else to do with each other.

Stupid...but then MS does do stupid things a lot!

Windows 8 if an awful system and to share it's name with anything else is stupid. Would you call your child "Big Arse edited by ddp".

Times like this I miss the retro days in gaming, cause seriously console names were superior. From Odyssey to Saturn, even Atari had something going for naming their consoles after wild cats (Lynx, Jaguar, etc). Dreamcast is even better than Xbox 8 (name wise), and a lot of people shot that down. At least it was original.

If you can fix your PC you should be able to fix an XBox, I can....

The XBox naming is getting a bit old now, what's next? XBox After? :)

Perhaps it's actually Xbox 'Infinity'? Not Xbox '8'...

Fail60 is fail60, its earned that title. Also with MS locking drives to motherboards its very annoying to just replace parts.

True it can be a pain in the A** re-marrying a new optical drive. That's why I've normally been able to repair the original drive, still a pain but not so bad after the first one.

I almost prefer Sony's OCD obsession with changing component layout every 6-10 months 0-o
