New MasterCard credit card has LCD, keypad MasterCard has unveiled its latest piece of plastic, dubbed the "Display Card."
The Display Card adds special authentication and smart features to your standard credit card, including an LCD display and keypad.

You will need to authenticate usage of the card with a one-time password. Many banks and other services such as PayPal, offer separate authentication devices, which can get burdensome if you have to carry around multiple tokens just to be able to login, or make changes to your account.

Outside of the password, the Display Card has room for updates into the future, says the company. The card may be able to show you available credit balance, reward points, or even recent transactions at some point.

For the time being, the Display Card will only be available via certain banks in Europe and in Singapore.

That's kind of cool. I don't spend enough where I'd always need to know what's on my card, but I like the idea of at least syncing the available balance on the card. I feel like the on/off button might be getting unwanted attention in some pockets however and would drain the battery faster, perhaps.

Cool...can't wait until we get these in the states so I can get a free one, cancel the account, and root the card!

The makers might wanna add a solar cell to this smart card. This will address any power issues.

Cool and interesting, one of the first application of smart plastic i've seen. Expect more stuff like this in the future! Even more interesting is Graphene which in a few years we will see even more amazing stuff like this. Not familiar with Graphene do some google/youtube searches, really neat stuff. You too search for "Future Applications of Graphene".

Graphene is possibly the single coolest material science advance in recent history, possibly excepting non-linear optics ^^ ...

Yeah right............and to fund this little piece of dumb work that gets replaced every 4 years as is done nowadays, we'll just have to tolerate a massive increase in APRs.

Nah. This type of throwaway electronics doesn't cost all that much more than adding a hologram, honestly.

I would disagree they operate like drug dealers, but would agree they operate just like the Mafia, or might i suggest once the mob saw things were going away from the old business model, they simply adapted and legitimized their business and setup credit cards companies in place?

Agreed, I've love to see the removal of entities and companies (who are not people) from having the rights of a person.
