PC gaming sees another year of strong growth

While the PC market itself has topped and has even been declining in recent years, PC gaming has seen continued growth.
For 2012, the gaming market saw growth of 8 percent compared to flat growth for the PC market.

There are over 1 billion PC gamers, with total revenue hitting $20 billion. China represented a good portion of the growth, with the nation accounting for $6.8 billion of the revenue, good for a 9 percent boost year-over-year.

Overall, the industry also saw growth in Korea, Japan, the US, the UK and Germany, all of which are considered "mature" markets in regards to growth.

Of the 1 billion gamers, a full 25 percent were not interested in "hardcore" games such as shooters, but preferred to play "core games" like strategy, role-playing and action titles.

PC has always been better, but with the ancient console selection, it is no wonder more people are going to PC. We will have to see how PC does after the next generation is released...if MS and Sony don't do too much stupid, anti-consumer crap, PC will probably get slaughtered, sad to say.

Why buy a new PC? Most of what is coming out will run on very old systems. After all windows 8 is turning the new comps into glorified tablets. I won't buy another PC till there's a new operating system worth running. Hardware significantly upgraded would be a good thing too!

Windows 7 works great on new PCs. Personally I never buy new; I've been upgrading the same computer since before ATX...but there is a lot to be said for replacing a 5-year old rig with a new $700 rig that blows it out of the water...so long as you have a copy of Windows 7 to put on it.

I just want devs started to develop for PC as priority again. Let the consoles have those crappy ports again. Like good old days.

Consoles have always had crappy ports, that won't change any time soon if the hardware is cheap junk & is too limited
