Google Glass to retail for $299?

Google Glass to retail for $299? According to one tech researcher using internal sources, the Google Glass headwear is expected to cost $299 when it finally becomes available to all consumers.
Early adopters got access to the glasses earlier this year for the price of $1500.

The device itself is not too expensive to build. The most expensive component is the display, which comes in at about $35. The display is made by Himax Tech, which Google just acquired a majority share in.

Given that Google can sell the 32GB Nexus 7 FHD for $299, the sources speculate a similar price tag should leave the company with a decent margin.

hate to be 1 of the early adopters who forked out $1200 more then the other people who pays $299 for it.

I hate to be that guy, but these things really spook me. As it is, the government can track my phone without a warrant and the carriers happily turn over all call records. Yes, I know that my phone will be locked down...but I don't know that about everyone else will. How long until we see the next carrier-installed trojan?

^This. Especially with combined with a "turn camera on w/o notice" trojan that inevitably shows up.

I'm with you guys, you couldn't pay me to put this spyware on my face. We need to get pervy Uncle Sam out of our bedrooms, not invite him into our heads.

That's one of the reasons new devices are said to be on the "Bleeding Edge." You will bleed money to own them.
