According to sources, Microsoft has finished its Windows 8.1 operating system, dubbing the latest build as RTM (release to manufacturing).
The company had earlier promised to finish the software by "late August" and they seem to have come through on their promise.
Build 9600 will be shipped to PC makers for testing and driver updates now, before its launch on October 17th.
The source also claims Microsoft has a press statement ready for next week to publicly reveal the finalized software.
Windows 8.1 is completely free to Windows 8 owners.
