Hilarious Conan video: Apple wants you to appreciate that free U2 album that everyone hates

Last week, when Apple announced its new iPhone 6, 6 Plus, Apple Watch and iOS 8, it made a less splashy but also significant announcement: It would be giving away U2's new 'Songs of Innocence" album, for free, to all iTunes users.
Over 500 million people with iTunes accounts were given the album for free, but if Twitter and blogs are any judge, nobody was happy with the album, free or not.

Apple was so inundated with complaints that it even set up a website with step-by-step instructions on how to remove the album.

Conan has made a hilarious quick video about how Apple wants to make sure you appreciate the album, by any means necessary.

I am a big proponent of anything but Apple. I do not like their products, I have never used them. I am a windows/android techie. Earlier this week one of my co-workers came in who is an Apple nut and talked to me. He said how f'd up it is that Apple was able to push and download this album to his phone without his permission. He said is that not a security breach where they can force anything upon me without my permission and he also said who knows what they can see on my phone and take on my phone without my knowledge. It got me thinking when a hardcore Apple guy got so pissed over this U2 issue. Just food for thought for anyone reading.

If Crapple can just intrude into your own shit with-out your consent. They also can pull anything from your iCrap product with-out your permission.

The same happen with the Police Departments using Stingray fake cellular towers all over the big cities & towns in America; to spy [ snoop ] on regular folks.

Encrypt everything is the way to go.

Hey everyone, the sky is falling!

That's what everyone sounds like complaining about something FREE of charge.

And no, Apple didn't force or download anything onto your machine. It's in everyone's library, but it's not downloaded yet. Just as if you purchased something from iTunes but didn't have the auto-sync feature enabled, you have to click on the songs/album to actually download it to your device via iCloud. Just like I change the channel when I don't want to see a RomCom, if you don't want the album, then don't download it. Ignore it. Done!

The entire promotion was a veiled way of showing all of the Apple newbs how iCloud works, and is a selling tool to push you to upgrade your iCloud service.

Get over it YOURSELF IDIOT! You need to realize that the thing people are complaining about is not a free U2 album...it is their invasion by Apple to put something on their device THEY DID NOT WANT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

If Appple does that, then what else are they capable of?

But I guess for a clueless idiot like you privacy does not matter!

But it does to a lot of other people.

I really love this statement. How can you be sure that you do not like their products.... WHEN YOU HAVE NEVER USED ONE!!! Dumb comments like this make me question the level of tech competence on this board.

It's very funny to think that you actually beleive that Apple is the only company capable of this. God forbid someone give away anything for free.

What is even FUNNIER, is people like you that think privacy does not matter!

Get a clue...it does.

I'm all for privacy, but I'm also intelligent enough to be realistic about the state of privacy in 2014. There is no such thing as privacy, not when you use a credit card to purchase things online, when every website you visit is tracking you, you have to create an account whenever you order something. Hell, even when you signed up for your AD account you had to put your info in.

And do you write hate letters to every company that you deal with on a daily basis?? You do realize that EVERY company tracks EVERYTHING that you do. I know that I have about a dozen keyring tags for every "shoppers club" you could imagine, from the 3 different grocery stores that I go to, to the car dealerships now having discount or reward clubs.

If you are this worried about your privacy....then you must not own a cell phone. Well, you read AD so of course you have a cell phone. Do you not believe that you are continuously being tracked by that, NO MATTER WHICH COMPANY YOU BOUGHT IT FROM?? You don't seem to be that stupid that you think that an android phone doesn't track you, or target ad you to death by your phone.

Let me ask you this question in closing, Is Apple the only company that you do not trust?? Do you believe that they are the only ones compromising your "privacy"?

Hey Andre, this looks like a promo job FOR apple... a soft peddle. Coco was probably even paid for it.

Isn't Marcus Pratt a genuine VP of marketing at Apple? It certainly sounded like it. Or have I missed the point here? Apple seem genuinely baffled at why people might be upset.

They should have replaced the U2 album with "The Fappening" pictures. Would have gone over better.

PS: I'm an Android guy all the way... But Google Play Music does this all the time. I have many albums in my library that I never purchased or requested. These are the freebies from Google.

These comments (most of them) can't be serious. If you don't like Apple/iPhone, just say you don't like Apple/iPhone. Anyone can get into your phone or other techie (sp?) device. Remote access and such... hello. How do you get software updates on your phone? Do you have apps? Other things were already mentioned in some of the comments. Privacy, smivacy. Such a thing is unheard of in 2014. Seriously folks? This has nothing to do with a phone. If you liked U2 (and liked the album), you would be happy you got it for free; regardless of how it came to you. You can't tell me you have never bought anything (software or device) with anything already on it. Windows 7 had music samples on them. Guess what I eventually did...... 'Delete.' Shoot, I probably did 'Shift' + 'Delete.' It also came with some picture samples. One of my previous android phones came with 2 or 3 videos already on it. These comments are very confusing. Wth are you all actually angry about? Please don't say "Privacy."

That's not the point and hasn't been in any of the posts I read here.

...Why is it that if people don't suggest Apple is %100 perfect they get grief?

Summary: You do not like something which you have never used. Well, at least you have an open mind. LOL
