It's official: After 13 years, RapidShare is officially dead Once popular file sharing site RapidShare has announced it will shut down on March 31, 2015, with the site's administrators advising users to secure their data as soon as possible.
Started in 2002, the site became extremely popular as it allowed paying users to get fast access to unauthorized movies, music, games and any other files that were shared on warez sites. At one point, the site was one of the 50 most popular on the planet, controlling up to 5 percent of the Internet's total traffic.

Of course, such popularity also brought unwanted attention from the major copyright holders, and with that came lawsuits.

In the past few years, Rapidshare began taking down more pirated content and began to market itself as a cloud storage service. They even took down their free service, which allowed non-paying customers to download some files for free daily at slower speeds. The latter was the final nail in the coffin for the site, which could no longer compete with other sites in any respect.

R.I.P RapidShare.

Ya see Piracy does pay! Without piracy on Rapidshare its no longer a feasible business, its built on a piracy business model.

It WAS built on piracy business model. Unlike the other existing file sharing sites it stopped paying the sharers / posters and that was its death knell. For a while they would simply remove the files upon request. This was ok for those with high speed connection but then the sources dried up. Consequently the premium account holders also moved away.

Not gonna miss it. I would occasionally visit RS to grab an obscure program or some hard to find new porn.

Otherwise, it was a haven for nefarious.......well...EVERYTHING.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

All's well ends well. I don't miss it.
There are many other file host sites to choose from.
If anyone has files stored at RS, grab them and move
them to another host...
Cos once March 31st hits, all accounts and files will
be deleted. Adios RS.

Honestly this is really bad!!!

Let me explain why..

Rapidshare allowed users of popular operating systems like linux and unix and others to be available for download in DMZ zones without them this is going to send people back to torrents which are sometimes way worse.

Torrents has its pros and cons.
So here's how to spot a good Linux share:

Check the uploader's profile...
if his track record is consistent as water
and his background is as old as a Green Machine,
then you are Good to go! ;-)
