New version of uTorrent bundled with secret bitcoin mining software?

Written by Matti Robinson @ 07 Mar 2015 8:05 User comments (16)

New version of uTorrent bundled with secret bitcoin mining software? The users of the uTorrent have found that the new version of the popular BitTorrent client comes with an additional piece of software unseen before. What makes it even worse is that it is installed without consent.
The program is called EpicScale and is a bitcoin mining software. Mining cryptocurrencies uses a lot of your processing power and therefore is extremely power hungry.

BitTorrent has replied and assured that EpicScale is not installed without users consent. Several users seem to disagree and have found the mining software on their computer without agreeing on installing it.

Have you had problems with this program? If you have installed the new update and your CPU is running hot you may want to check your installed programs (via Control Panel) and remove the possible EpicShare.

I haven't upgraded since 1.8.2.

I'm reading bit coin mining but I am also reading litecoin mining software, btc would be worthless at this time because of the difficulty. Lite coin on the other hand would be more feasible.

I am using 2.2.1 myself. A shame Qtorrent is so full of itself.....would be nice if I had the file priority setup azerus has.....

@zippy
it may have bandwidth allocation, torrents are set to normal when added, right click on torrent to increase tho i'm not sure how good it will work
...............................................................
I use v3.0,its close to versions where they began to advertise crapware

I'm better a lot of hackers try to stick bitcoin mining software on your computer through the files you download via utorrent. I wouldn't doubt that utorrent was telling the truth, but using torrent int he first place increases your risk for getting viruses.

UT 2.2.1 is about the only one thats cross supported by all my trackers ><, some Qt and some Azerus ones are, I think they are 3 or 4 versions old by now.

Qtorrent? I can not change the slot number of a torrent and I can only change file priority to one of 3 or 4 levels. My sucky 100$ a month internet is 10mb/80kbps so I need control over stuff tho I rarely go nuts and watch a big series I download at least Ut 2.2.1 lets me do 15 levels of file prioritization when I need it, Azerus did like 30 or so but Azerus is fickle with my firewall UT seems to the only one to ever place nice with Kaspersky or comodo or tinywall or anything else I have used... ><.

Until I fig out how to keep Kas from blocking 80 and 8080 I am staving off putting it back on.... going wif tiny for awhile.

Half of which are false positives and the other half you probably deserve for being clueless. ^^

I use Tixati, it's simple, fast, secure and no bloatware.

No Tixati, private tracker sempai dose not notice you.
=;_;=

I'd like a numbered torrent order for downloads if I am managing 10+ no numbers makes is annoying. Least you have file priority control but no way to set priority for 10+ files at once. Not bad better than Qtorrent at least but...ya...trackers no likely....

I hear what you are saying, but that doesn't usually bother me in the slightest due to my net connection and that I barely have 10+ trackers seeding or downloading at once. Normally I keep around 5. If you are running a seedbox tho, I can see why Tixati wouldn't be for you.

Thank God there's Transmission BT Client.

Available for Linux, Mac & Windows.

When I read this report, I didn't bother with updating uTorrent.

I calmly uninstalled it and installed TransmissionQT instead.

Same great features. No bloat.

Unless you are trying to download 100GB of stuff across 20 torrents on 100$ a month 10mb/80kbps DSL...

Goodbye uTorrent. I like crypto currencies but I don't feel like helping others mine them.
