PlayStation Mobile is dead

Sony has ended PlayStation Mobile, their failed experiment to build a web store for PS classics and indie games that can played on mobile devices.
There will be no further content published past July 15th, and you will not have access to previous purchases for re-download after September 10th, either.

The service had allowed for playback on the PS Vita handheld and on PlayStation-certified Android phones but the Android side has been losing support for some time.

A shame - in competent hands, this could have been a real moneymaker.

Not in the U.S.!!!

Vita is a dead concept and only used by a handful of people. I don't actually know a single person who knows a single person that owns a Vita.

Sony's mobile phone marketshare is so tiny that this too would not help keep Sony Mobile alive and no doubt Sony doesn't support too many devices that aren't Sony.

Not sure why you'd think this would be a money maker but I don't agree. Maybe.......people are weird.

Agreed. I've seen exactly ONE Vita "in the wild" in the US, ever. It's almost as difficult to find PSPs.

Furthermore, ePSXe and FPse PS1 emulators work pretty damn well on almost any Android device, and PPSSPP (PSP emulator) is also pretty solid (if your device has the processing power to handle it, that is) and all of those emulators support various external controllers, or on-screen controls if necessary. I love playing old-school XCom: Enemy Unknown on my S3! It's not difficult to image PS1 CDs you own (legal) or find the .isos online (not legal), so... *thpbphthp* to Sony; I cannot think of a company I more enjoy despising, barring Adobe and Comcast.

for the same reason nintendo is raking it in.

sony is incompetent almost zero ads about the device, no day one AAA games and a failure to support established apps in a timely fashion.

im stuck with a Vita as no one is stupid enough to buy it....including gamestop. I'm selling my PS4 as soon as i get the chance, as there handling of it mirrors there handling of vita in everyway.
