Sling TV launches new service with multi-stream and Fox channels

Dish has unveiled a new $20-per-month model of its Sling TV streaming TV service, adding multi-stream and Fox channels for the first time.
The new package will allow for up to three simultaneous streams on different devices, and will include Fox, Fox's regional sports networks and FX. By signing up, you also get on-demand access to FX Now.

Dish's first Sling TV package has Disney channels including ESPN, but only allows for one stream at a time.

"Since launch, our customers have asked for more channels and multiple streams," said Sling TV Chief Executive Roger Lynch in a statement. The new package "is the first step in answering their requests."

In addition to the Fox anchors, AMC, A&E, Turner channels, Scripps Networks Interactive channels, EPIX and Univision will also be part of the multi-stream service. Disney will not.

As a cord cutter, I was excited to give Sling TV a try. I subscribed for about 6 months. It was a disaster. Constant interruptions in the stream and glitches that made the product unwatchable.

I called their tech support several times. The people were nice enough, but their solutions always involved blaming my equipment (router, modem, computer). Since I have never had a problem streaming from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, or other sites, and since the problems continued even after I replaced my equipment, their explanation did not fly with me. So, I cancelled.

Their concept is great. I would like to say that I would re-subscribe if they fixed the glitches. But I doubt it. They had their chance with me.

I prefer the Playstation Vue packages. The only showstopper to Vue is no OTA channels. I did the one week trial but quit for that reason. I believe I will come back to it though. However, I will get the Roamio OTA with a lifetime subscription to supplement Vue. That will include all the local channels and sub-channels as well.
