Apple finally updated the Mac Pro, most powerful Mac ever

Apple has finally, after years of pressure from professionals, answered the call to update their top-of-the-line Mac. The company unveiled a new Mac Pro, which this time around is a all-in-one computer.
The new Mac Pro is obviously the most powerful computer Apple has ever released and has more to offer than anything they've previously had. The base model includes a 5K Retina display, 8-core Xeon processor, Radeon Vega graphics, 32 GB ECC memory, a one terabyte SSD, and first time ever 10 Gb Ethernet connection. This starts at $4999.

You can upgrade the Mac Pro to up to 18 cores and Vega graphics up to 16GB of VRAM and 400GB per second of memory bandwidth. The ECC RAM goes up to 128 gigabytes and SSD can be upgraded to 4 TB. This obviously will cost, a lot.

The Mac Pro is an all-in-one product just like the iMacs but includes more I/O options, including four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and comes in a stealth-like dark silver color.

One piece of bad news for the people that have been waiting for this for years is that you'll have to wait a little bit more. Apple expect the new Mac Pro to ship in December.

I'm guessing the applet guys will be happy to finally have a mac 'pro' that is faster than a sub-$1000 laptop...although by december this may no longer be the case.

I will give them credit for keeping the power down; the TDP of the 18 core i9 is probably going to be well over 200w, a low end vega will probably take over 100w, and each thunderbolt 3 controller takes 100w (or it might be 100w per port depending on how you read the spec)...that's over 500w right there without even considering the other components, display, or speakers. It must be more of that apple 'magic'.

Anyone who buys this overpriced crap has nothing else to do with their money !

I think this is the iMac Pro. The 'real' Mac Pro should be released later.

They make it sound like Apple has broke a mold here.

I can make a pimp laptop with specs that will bump it into a future-proof.

32GB RAM is great, albeit a crazy assed price from Apple for simply bumping the CHEAPEST COMPONENT AVAILABLE NOWADAYS...Nothing special here.

1TB SSD is also not that high priced. 1TB Samsung 850 Pro is 470.00

The new 18 core Intel will NEVER be fully used by pretty much anyone...EVER. Way overkill just to increase the price. A Xeon 8 core wouldn't drive this laptop into a 5000 pricepoint. LAME!

ANd a Xeon proc.....C'mon man! NOT NEEDED.

An I7 (or I9 in this case) will suffice just fine. Xeons require discrete video, what a pain! They support ECC RAM which is also overkill and have more cache which is the main driving point for Xeons.

Ronhondo couldn't be more on spot with his comment.

I work with MAC lovers, they're a special breed that need special (ed) attention. Frankly they're idiots who can barely think their own way to a solution. Hence "MAC"

I think the news is not that Apple has done something remarkable (or rather that they plan to) but instead that they are finally getting around to releasing an updated desktop after YEARS of leaving their hardcore users with outdated crap and not even giving them a price break on 3-year-old tech. It's better than what they are selling now...that's the news, nevermind that the base model isn't as good as a year-old laptop that sold for less than half the price.

As for apple users, they are not all morons...they just don't understand computers. There have been lots of very smart people who didn't understand computers...most of them died before the transistor was invented, but not all.

Yes, supposedly back in a tower-type case and probably with some beefier options than this new iMac Pro.
