  • Edit: Clearing all fields and adding new data was handled as adding a new movie instead of changing the current.

  • HTML templates: Updated the ResponsiveRed and DarkComfort HTML templates
  • Database: Fixed Remove Unused Directors and Remove Unused Writers still removed one entry if all were in use.
  • Database: Changed the database format to JSON. Filesize is a bit bigger, loading a bit slower but way more stable and extendable (and better readable).

  • TheMovieDB.org import: Fixed incorrect parsed Unicode characters showing up as '��'.
  • Find Duplicates: Show file size, resolution and duration when comparing two movies in the Find Duplicates screen to better select the best media file.
  • TV Series: Opening the TV Series Detail page updated the seen date to today.

  • Database: Fixed issues with loading large (e.g. > 10K movies, > 100K actors) databases by completely rewriting the loading code. It also speed up the loading.

  • September 20th, 2017: EMDB V3.00 released
  • • User Interface: New Icon, new startup screen, new styling of MessageBox and ProgressDialog.
  • • Scan Hard Disk: Default Case, System and Region were not applied when adding new movies.
  • • Database: Added DTS HD 6.1 to the audio stream formats.
  • • System: Added background folder scan at startup to detect new or deleted Movies. TV Series are not scanned yet.
  • • Scan Hard Disk: Remove keywords were not saved.
  • • User Interface: Added support for special language characters like German Ä, Ö and Ü to the quick search (typing one or more characters in bookshelf navigates to the first movie matching that title, F3 for next one).

  • • IMDb Import: Added support for adult movies (e.g. 'Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge') listed on IMDb.
  • • IMDb Import: Optimized download data size. With 25 actors up to 50MB was downloaded per movie. Now it is only about 2MB. The total downloaded data per session is now listed in the Statistics Options Page.
  • • IMDb Import: Fixed an issue where existing actors without IMDb id or photo were not correctly updated when a new movie with that actor was added.
  • • TV Series: When manually adding an individual episode portability was not taken into account.

  • • Translations: Fixed an incorrect translation of title / alternative title in the Portuguese (Brazil) translation.

  • Search: Search: Added AND / OR Genre search.

  • For movies EMDB uses the first entry of the Production Companies section of the Company Credits page (just follow the 'See more' link of the Company Credits section of the movie main page). E.g. for Avatar this will be 'Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation' (shortened to '20th Century Fox').
  • For TV Series EMDB selects the (USA) (TV) section of the Distributors section of the same page. For non-USA TV Series the (USA) is substituted with the country of origin. If the title is postfixed with a abreviation the abreviation is used. E.g. for Breaking Bad 'AMC' is selected as Network.
  • This algoritm seems to work pretty good for both US and international movies and TV Series.
  • User Interface: Improved updating of the Bookshelf after multiple edits / additions.
  • Translations: Updated the Greek translation.


Changes for v1.56 - v1.57

  • User Interface: Added a QuickSearch function. Just type one or more letters and the first movie which title is starting with these letters is selected. Type them again (or use F3) and the next fitting movie is selected. This works both in Bookshelf and List Viewing Mode. In Bookshelf Mode a visual guidance indicating which letter sequence is currently used is shown.
  • System: Fixed crashes when adding movies or navigating in Bookshelf viewing mode.
  • User Interface: Made the error message at startup when unable to connect to WWW.EMDB.TK to check for updated more clear.

  • Database: correct the language properties for Serbian, Norwegian, Finnish, Korean, Cantonese, Thai, hindi, Turkish and Polish. There was an error in the database until version 0.89 causing these movies to be stored incorrectly. In version 0.90 this was fixed but this resulted in incorrect retrieval of these properties. This is now corrected the first time the database is loaded in version 0.91. Movies with one of these languages added in version 0.90 are also "corrected" although they were already okay. You have to change these manually. I'm sorry for this.
  • IMDB Import: Increased the timeout for importing as this resulted in Error E02 messages for some people with poor connections or high background network load.
  • File Import: When changing the separator character the previous one was still used the first time you imported a file.
  • Translations: Updated the Turkish translation.

Added a tab to the option dialog to enable this feature and to customize the prefixes taken into account. You can also update all movies already in the database.
  • Translations: Updated the Slovakian translation.
  • Translations: You can now use the '|' character as a new line indicator.
  • User Interface: Made the space for the loan date in the main window a bit larger.
  • Manual Backup: Manual backups (and restores) now include both the database and the thumbnail images.
  • Database: Fixed (incorrect) reported damaged database when only directors and/or actors but no movies are present.
  • Database: Changed the automatic backup mechanism: EMDB now automatically keeps a Last Known Good Database to prevent data loss when something happens to your database. You can still (and should) create manual backups though.
  • Database: Added a check on version numbers. You shouldn't (and can't anymore) use a newer database with an older version of EMDB.
  • Application: EMDB is now fully portable: all settings are stored in a local configuration file (emdb.cfg) instead of the Windows registry. Your current settings are read from the registry and stored in the configuration file.
