Version history for PDFCreator
<<Back to software description
Changes for v2.1.0 - v2.1.1
- Improvements
- The JobID token now holds the Windows print job id. This is not unique over reboots though. The Counter token remains always unique.
- The COM Interface now has a method PrintFile, to call the Windows Shell commands to print a file with PDFCreator.
- Bugs fixed
- The save file dialog was still not on top in some cases, when the PDFCreator window was skipped. We thought to have fixed this, but there were more conditions where this could occur.
- PDFCreator could crash when no settings were present in the registry for the current user.
- Changing the Metadata in the print job window did no work, the final document contained the defaults
- Fixed a bug in the UI where the Resampling for Color and Monochrome images could not be set separately
- Loading settings from an INI file did not work
- PDFCreator Plus: There was a bug in HotFolder. When creating the folder for converted documents inside the watched folder, it was converted infinitely.
- Known issues
- We have seen problems with opening a mail client from PDFCreator with Windows 8 and Thunderbird. The MAPI32.dll method just fails. This disappears when the Log level is set to Debug, without observable reason.
Changes for v2.0.1 - v2.0.2
- This version fixes a few bugs that were found since the last release. Among the fixes, there were a few occasions when an exception was not caught and the application could crash. This did not cause any harm, but was annoying. Another problem was with detecting the default E-mail client. This is defined in several places and they are not documented properly. We did some analysis there and think that we have figured out now when to use Outlook and when the MAPI is preferred.
Changes for v2.0.0 - v2.0.1
- A few minutes ago, we have published PDFCreator 2.0.1, which fixes a few problems that were found after the release of PDFCreator 2.0. Among them was a problem that could result in empty profiles, when PDFCreator was loading the settings while another instance was closing. There was also a bug when trying to add printers with blanks in the name. Finally, we have also fixed a few minor bugs, two problems in the COM interface and clarified a few points in the manual.
- We wish all of you a Merry Christmas!
Changes for v1.9.5 - v2.0.0
- After two years of hard work and one year after the first preview, we are happy to release PDFCreator 2.0.
- Our completely rewritten PDFCreator has a well-arranged and modern design to improve the user-friendliness of the handling. It comes with all the functions, that you know from the old versions, but with better performance and some brand new features, like adding cover and attachment pages or automated FTP upload.
Changes for v1.7.2 - v1.7.3
- PDFCreator 1.7.3 is a maintenance release of the old PDFCreator branch. We have fixed the upgrade path from old versions and the detection whether files can be printed, adding printing support to more file types. Finally, it of course adds support for PDF Architect 2.
Changes for v1.7.1 - v1.7.2

Changes for v1.6.2 - v1.7.0
- We are happy to release PDFCreator 1.7.0 and PDF Architect 1.1 today.
- PDFCreator now produces PDF/A 2b output and has a lot of small fixes and improvements included.
- PDF Architect now allows to move pages in the document by dragging and dropping them in the page preview, add lines and different shapes an a lot more. PDF Architect 1.1 is included in the PDFCreator offline setup and can be downloaded and installed during the regular setup. Existing users of PDF Architect will receive an update notification shortly.
Changes for v1.6.1 - v1.6.2

- Some translations were updated
- Bug Fixes:
- pdfcmon contained a bug on Terminal Servers with disabled logging. Activating logging made it disappear. This is fixed now.

- Fixed some minor bugs
- Known issues:
- No hyperlinks possible (Hyperlinks for MS Word are possible with the combination of PDF-T-Maker and PDFCreator.)
- There are problems if non-ANSI characters exist in the title. This causes Ghostscript to not create a file at all. Avoid such characters as a workaround.
Changes for v1.5.0 - v1.5.1
- We are happy to announce PDFCreator 1.5.1 today. This is a minor release which includes some updated translations and fixes some problem that were left with temporary paths on Windows Server and a bug that cause PDFCreator to create a lot of open handles in server mode. This release also fixes a problem that specially seems to occur on german systems. Some characters in the PDF were displayed as a rectangle, but were printed correctly. This was due to an incompatible PostScript driver version.
Changes for v1.4.1 - v1.4.2
- We are happy to release PDFCreatot 1.4.2 today. We have fixed some smaller things, which may have a big effect though. Among them is a crash of the pdfcmon.dll when the document title had more than 255 characters. We hope that you enjoy this new release!
Changes for v1.4.0 - v1.4.1
- Two weeks after PDFCreator 1.4.0 we have released version 1.4.1 today. We are happy to do so, because this version fixes some bugs. Especially the problem some users have encountered which caused PDFCreator to not work at all has been fixed. This has been due to a "misunderstanding" between two components of PDFCreator, which looked in different paths if the environment variables TEMP and TMP were set to different folders.
- Together with some smaller fixes and improvements, we have also implemented very basic support for managed group policies. PDFCreator settings can now be set through group policies. You have to note though: The settings user interface will show the policy values and will not deactivate the respective UI elements. If the users saves the settings, the policy values will be saved to the user's registry.
Changes for v1.3.2 - v1.4.0
- Improvements:
- Improved Setup: Expert settings are now accessible with a single click
- PDFCreator can now sign and encrypt PDFs at the same time
- Includes PDFArchitect 0.5.6 and Images2PDF 0.9.0
- Improved performance with a really large amount of files in the queue
- Fixed ordering problem when a lot of print jobs arrive in quick succession
- Bug Fixes:
- A Problem with Author token
- Some problems with dots and brackets in the title
- An error that caused an additional backslash in the ClientComputer token under certain circumstances
- Slow conversion of PS files from the command line
- Some problems with unicode in the metadata
- Some problems with pdfcmon on terminal servers
- A problem with user defined paper sizes
- PDFArchitect crashed, when the last page was moved
- Fixed some other minor bugs
- Known issues
- No hyperlinks possible (Hyperlinks for MS Word are possible with the combination of PDF-T-Maker and PDFCreator.)
Changes for v1.3 - v1.3.1
- Just five days after PDFCreator 1.3.0 we are now releasing PDFCreator 1.3.1 to fix two severe bugs and some minor things. As many of you will have noticed, PDFArchitect did not load PDF files properly with the english translation. This is fixed now. The new pdfcmon.dll did crash on Terminal Servers, which is now fixed as well.
- We have also fixed smaller things like the PDFCreator windows that stayed open after printing and the problems with special characters in the filename, which leaves brackets in the title. We have also added some languages and added a comman line parameter /Expert to the setup, which allows to set installation path and such again but leaves the average user in peace with this stuff.
- Finally, we hope that there will be no need for a 1.3.2 in the next days.
Changes for v1.2.1 - v1.2.2
- We are happy to publish the maintenance release PDFCreator 1.2.2 today. This version basically adds more translations to the setup. The pdfforge.dll also now has support for TIFF files with multiple pages.
Changes for v1.2.0 - v1.2.1
- We are happy to release the maintenance version PDFCreator 1.2.1 today. We have greatly improved the uninstaller. Future updates will not detele the profile/printer mapping during the update.
- We have also included a new Tool: Images2PDF. It allows you to quickly convert a list of images into a PDF file. Make sure to test it after the update.
Changes for v1.1.0 - v1.2.0
- Today we are happy to announce PDFCreator 1.2.0. This version fixes a bug with printing from processes with lower priority like Google Chrome or Adobe Reader X. PDFCreator now also supports transparent PNG files.
- According to our new versioning scheme we have increased the minor version number as there are new features and the translations needed to be updated.
Changes for v1.0.2 - v1.1.0
- We are happy to announce PDFCreator 1.1.0 today. According to our new versioning scheme, it is the first release after PDFCreator 1.0.0 which adds new features. Among them is the embedded Ghostscript 9.0 which improves the TrueType font support. We have also added 128 Bit AES encryption and improved the setup to be run when PDFCreator is already installed to make the update easier.
- The new TrueType font system also fixes spacing problems in some fonts including the Arial-Degree-Bug which caused the degree symbol to flow into following characters.
- The new setup also provides an new Toolbar dialog which we now hope helps the user to see how he can disable it. You can also seperately disable the DNS Error pages. What many users did not see: The Toolbar provides two things apart from searches: It helps us to develop PDFCreator as it brings some revenue that supports the running cost we have for serving web pages for some million visitors and update requests for more than 6 million active users. But it also allows you to create PDF files with a single click from any webpage you are currently visiting. We think that it is worth giving that a try.
Changes for v1.0.1 - v1.0.2
- Today we have released PDFCreator 1.0.2. This version returns to the older Ghostscript 8.70 as the new version had problem with making text searcheable. We have also added some languages and have fixed a small bug of our own.
Changes for v0.9.8 - v0.9.9
- This release adds two major features. You can define printing profiles to store settings for a certain purpose and load them when required. Additionally, you can have multiple PDFCreator printers that by default use one of the profiles. For example, this can be used to automatically save invoices in a certain directory when printed to an invoice printer, while have another regular PDFCreator printer. There are also some smaller fixes as well as progress in the cClose Bug of the COM interface, which we hope is solved now.
