Demonoid tracker taken down

Demonoid tracker taken down

It appears that the popular semi-private torrent tracker Demonoid has been taken down, again.
The tracker was taken down by local authorities in the Ukraine, and sources say the action was taken in conjunction with Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky's upcoming trip to the United States. If accurate, it would seem the country is looking to get in the Obama administration's good graces in regards to copyright infringement.

Last week, the site was hit by a DDoS attack that took the tracker down for an extended period, which was actually a relief to many fans who thought it may be down for good.

Government agents arrived at Ukraine's largest data center, ColoCall, last week. They copied all the information from the Demonoid servers and then sealed them. ColoCall was then "forced to terminate the agreement with the site," says TorrentFreak.

There were no arrests made in connection with the take down.

Sit back and watch the web mourn.

Demonoid is one of those you figure will always be around in some form or another.

27.8.2012 00:00

The phoenix will rise again as always.

37.8.2012 00:08

At least TPB & H33T are still available.......

47.8.2012 10:20

Finally, they have stopped all piracy; a crushing defeat to all pirates! [/sarcasm]

57.8.2012 10:33

This will slow them down at best. I'm under the impression it will take more to stop them

67.8.2012 11:06

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

77.8.2012 13:36

The guys at pirate bay will help them get back up as they have done a few other sites.

Calm down... Stay on target, this isn't a politico & for your own sake don't start flying off the handle and start voting against your own interests. Romney will have all our taxes flowing through the Luxembourg if he gets in office & all the vets from WWII will rise from their graves to kill us all.

The christs sake, look at the article... the timing of this thing is too convenient. It got shut down JUST as the prim minister came to visit the US.

It's a ruse as far as I'm concerned. Just to make sure she didn't hear shit on copyright infringement from the president, the municipality blocked/shut down/suppressed from the US Demonoid long enough for her to get in, do her thing & get the hell out without having to put up with a lot of garbage.

It'll probably be back up 20 minutes after her plane leaves the ground, so quit squirming. Not every country & citizen of the US shares the uptight, burka wearing, no titty showing, Quaker mentality the ostensibly moral "minority" seems to have over the nation as a whole.

So my guess is when DPM Khoroshkovsky gets out of the corner of a country of what seems to be 314 million half crazed cowboys, who each individually think they own everything within their eyesight, will - play nice, answer vaguely on policy question of a nature similar to this unless it can answered "we shut it down, see..." and answer everything else with regards to "we're looking forward to working much more diligently with the US & their allies to build a stronger, more unified world".

She'll see a ball game, visit an amusement park, see a museum, see some kids in school, a drug bust, might get to shake hands with Bono, then they'll pat her on the ass & pop the tab on some Jim Beam & ship her ass back thinking they did something right.

45 minutes later Demonoid is back on line. Back to business as usual.

You can, in most states, 'write in' who you are voting for for POTUS. With that in mind, despite Romney not (F)actually 'securing' the GOP nomination yet, I propose Ron Paul as your 'write in' candidate.

I didn't say I was Nostro-f*king-damaus... Like Scaldari stated, they may also be taking a hiatus in order to clean things up as well. Politics takes time. Take a sit & get your 'instant gratifying' ass out of "lock & load" and take a breath.

Baby's gotta have it now... They shut it down a week or so before she went over too, I don't hear you whining about that. Nor am I in charge of the Ukraine or deeply knowledgeable of their legal statutes... this isn't exactly cause/effect rocket science. It could be Sunday/Monday, it could be "when we're damn good & ready".

It's called speculation and a fine damned "EDUCATED" response. Seeing as most of that area has had a tendency to NOT always do as the US wants, I stand by my original statement, sans the timeline.

Given the bullshit nature of politics, "time" NEVER seems to play in anyone's favor, especially those who stands outside the confines of those playing the games.

You're saying you're not going to vote for a President who won't let you freely download pirated material? Way to go, champ.

If your post is any indication of your intelligence, then you shouldn't be voting at all.

It's the Republinuts that are preventing job growth. The T-baggers on the House throw out anything related to jobs or the highway bills. Vote Rumney-hood in and he'll steal more from the middle-class to give to the wealthy.

I can't figure this out about the American psyche. Asif they did not get enough of the last moron of a republican president this time around they are looking at an absolute idiot who keeps flip-flopping on his policy statement which don't make sense in the first place!

What they really need a major revamp of their constitution doing away with the electoral college b******t. They need direct election of the president. What I have figured out is that hypothetically one can get 60 % of the popular vote but still lose the election.

Secondly they need to stop talking about so called Democracy. It should be made into a fundamental right so that no state / federal law can disenfranchise any citizen so long as he is alive!

Supreme court appointments must be made time limited, just like the presidency. This would prevent them from getting GOD complex. I am waiting for the day when some one file a writ petition to grant voting rights to persons - I mean corporations - based on their market value / profits / political contributions. I am sure there are sitting judges who will grant then these rights.

Wow, sounds like you want a different country.

The Electoral College is there for a VERY important reason. Personally, I don't want a president chosen by New York and Los Angeles, which is what you would have if you got rid of the Electoral College.
Supreme court appointments are lifetime for a very important reason as well.
I could see maybe an upper age limit, but I don't agree with term limits on Judges.

Oh, I get it. You're not American?
Then don't tell us how to elect our leaders.

2013.8.2012 13:42

PMShah hit the nail on the head....I've always wondered why the hell the US even HAS an electoral college. I also agree on limiting Supreme Court justices to less than life terms.....Perhaps 9 years max before re-election and a 2 term limit will do the Supreme Court some good.

I'm sure that there are many other areas my country's gov't can use some improvement.

Then again, I think the damage Bush did has pushed the USA past the point of no return.

Maybe if you listened to some of the opinions of outsiders you would be ahead. What we as your closest neighbours are hearing is a lot negativity and outright hatred. Not what I have always considered to be American attributes. I am interested because I have family in the US and because a lot of what your country does impacts mine (and many others). You should read your political history to find out exactly what was the real purpose of the electoral college. To prevent the influence of the common man. It is sad that you don't want the votes of fellow Americans to decide the presidency. That is democracy in action. Trying to control the outcome is fascism.

Don't take offense to what I'm saying, just kind of feel it out.

We, the common sense, generally educated, well thought, not grossly ruled by the rhetoric of minority "faith" belief systems & who aren't still of the age of t*tty & ass*le f*king (i.e., every decision being bent on when he/she is getting laid next), rudimentary try to balance our history against what is happening today.

Most of us can see that foreign relations are going to suffer or that we're doomed to repeat the same mistakes, but it seems that idiot assholes somehow obtain more money than those of us with an above average IQ. Then those idiots go out & make policy, break the rules of their own policy and then shake their ass at the public when trotted before the courts for such actions that cripple any other individuals life.

Speaking for the US, it would be like one of your friends visiting your home. Say your little brother comes in & smacks you up side the head & takes away something you cherish. All while your friend is watching this.

YOU know if you beat your little brother's ass the consequences from your folks are going to be unbalanced against you because your brother is the favorite in the house. Yet, your friend is all of the sudden rambling on about how you should go over & shred your little bro's ass like a salad chef.

It kind of makes you want to tell him to be quiet & you'll deal with your brother on your own, in your won time... Right?

It's kind of the same thing here. Our elected idiots keep shitting on the carpet & the smart people over here can't seem to find a way to get the tidal wave of other idiots out of the way so we can get EVERYTHING fixed.

TRUST ME!!! We would definitely hear you out, but until we get the shit out of the rug, ain't nobody walking in here.

Electoral college at the time of declaration of independence 250 years ago in the pony-express mail was a proper way to go but most certainly not in today's instantaneous communication times. Yourf federsal structure has already put the game out of balance. You have 2 senators from each state, regardless of its land mass or population, with equal strength to their vote.

With electoral college you are making the situation worse. Why should the weight of any individual's vote be more or less than any other citizen in the country? In fact I would go a step further and opt for th French system where the elected official MUST obtain absolute majority by the process of elimination.

You are not prepared to hear other opinions about how to elect your leaders, fine. That is your right. Then on the same basis what gives you the right to enforce your views on other countries by sending in troops to forcibly impose your views and strip the invaded country of its resources to benefit a few corporations? Democracy, in my opinion means majority will. Then how do you account for filibuster ? And as I have mentioned in my previous post how can you justify even theoretical possibility of a contestant losing in spite of polling majority vote?

2715.8.2012 11:51

I can answer the filibusterer, it is because we are not really a democracy, we are a republic. The filibuster serves the purpose of not letting a simple majority dominate and persecute a minority opinion. it takes a 60% vote to stop a filibuster, which gives a minority position time to build support for their cause..

The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President. The second as part of the structure of the government that gave extra power to the smaller states.

The first reason that the founders created the Electoral College is hard to understand today. The founding fathers were afraid of direct election to the Presidency. They feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power.

The Senators were not supposed to be directly elected by the people, but appointed by the state legislatures to represent the interests of the states themselves. That change i think was a grave mistake and should be corrected, as the states themselves seem to have little say in what goes on in Washington.

So we are supposed to have the house, which is directly elected by the people and is their voice, with a 2 year turn over rate. THe Senate, appointed by the state legislators which had a 6 year term unless recalled by said state. The reason for only 2 per state irregardless of population was that they did not represent the peoples interests, but the interests of the state itself, thus kept one state from having any greater say then another. An electoral college which for the most part followed the popular vote, but had the power to go against it if they felt the people were making a grave mistake and helped balance the power between the larger and smaller states.

It is due to the fact we have pulled away from our republic foundations that we are having this problem with the Corporations. If we were still following a system of great power at the State level, little power at the Federal level it would be much harder for a corporation to influence things nationally as they due now, since they would have to focus on 50 fronts to pass their agenda. A governing body closer to its population is more likely to follow the actual will of the population making a Corporations job even harder.

Our system works, when we follow it. The problem is we have not followed it for most of the last 100 years it seems, and look at the mess we are in ;).

P.S. Military Adventurism was never part of our founding structure, and is not supported by the population at large. I would go as far to say it is mostly a product of undue corporate influence.

Now it's time to clear the front ranks with the proper cross fire with my trusty Red Rider bb-gun like muh daddy showed me!

Very well said. Nice to see someone who not only knows his history and political system but sees the flaws. In Canada we started out with a strong Federal system and ended up with stronger states/provinces and in the United States you have ended up with a very powerful federal government and weakened state influence - exactly what the founding fathers were trying to prevent. Go figure.

@Scaldari,

Thanks for clarifying the intent of the provisions BUT just see how these are being misused. Blocking every move by Obama that would alleviate the hardships of the general public being blocked by the republicans filibustering! After all that is said and done, it is not what the original intent is, I include ALL religions in this, it is how it is practiced / misused that matters.

3217.8.2012 07:23

And Another thing....quite off topic but in line with the flow of this conversation...if we didn't have an Electoral College then I can guarantee you that Ron Paul would be our next President. (which I am fine with BTW) And don't go flinging any mud about his 'ideas' on foreign policy. The fact remains that if you keep sticking your dick in another mans woman he will eventually cut that thing off. Bullies eventually get stomped out even if the whole neighborhood has to gang up at once. Doesn't mean we would puss out cuz we pull out, it just means that we understand previous said notion AND we stand ready just in case some dumbass tries to bring that bullshit in our yard. As for WW2 or other cases of mass bullying that is why we have a congress to invoke military action through a VALID declaration of war. Mass hysteria which ensues after a frightening event notwithstanding; FACTS should come to light before action is taken. And not manufactured 'facts' either.

In all honesty you have to temper the Republican filibuster with Majority Leaders refusal to allow the other sides bills to come to the floor for discussion, let alone vote. I admit the senate is broken, but it is both sides that are responsible for the breaking.

Not exactly elegant my friend, but well said indeed! Bartender!!! A beer for this man!

We should be swift in our punishment (not justice, justice doesn't exist) but not before the "facts". But neither should we stand around with our thumbs up our asses & our minds in Arkansas (Arkansas folks, that would be any 3 states over of your choosing & YOUR thumb preferably) waiting around to actually act upon issues of urgency.

Mob rules aren't the answer of course, but sometimes... If "x" number of people literally see the guy doing it... Do society a favor.

Hell... To go on would be to just repeat my stance how our supposedly 'greater society' is actually undoing itself to a point of profound weakness to which it will actually in turn find itself destroyed by the very things they "think" they have control over or arrogantly feel their above.

Oh I am well aware of the how the politicians operate. In almost all issues their stand is solely dependent on whether they are the ruling party or in opposition, not unlike Romney's stand on Obamacare ! They may fight like cat and dog in the legislature but after 8:00 they would be clinking glasses and discussing the merits of their latest opposite sex conquests.

If well being of the nation is to be the prime concern, I believe that the voting, even in congress and the senate should be secret. It should always be issue based and never on party lines.

At least I still have faith in a solid, cynical world.
