Center for Copyright Information
The Center for Copyright Information - or CCI - is a collaboration between U.S. content creators and Internet Service Providers.
On the content side, the entertainment industries are represented by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The members of the group that are ISPs include AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon.
The CCI was formed with the goal of creating and implementing the Copyright Alert System (CAS), which is a system that seeks to fight Internet piracy on P2P networks by identifying and sending noticed of infringement to U.S. Internet subscribers.
Representatives of content owners will notify a participating ISP if a subscriber is found to be sharing files illegally. The ISP identifies the account holder through the IP address, and will take action based on the CAS system.
