Interpolation

Interpolation is the process of mathematically creating an object between two other objects. This can create additional Pixels to increase Resolution of an image. It can even be used to create entire frames to increase Framerate. Interpolation can never re-create details that weren't included in the original picture. It can only be used to make an educated guess as to what those details should be.
